Why "Free Republic" if they don't want Others to be free? |
|
A true Captain Obvious question...
Seems that they think that their way should be law for the rest of us. Dangerous generalization...
Where is the freedom in that? Does it mean freedom for them to rule everyone else?
Quell my confusion at this seemingly self-evident paradox.

10. It's an Orwellian thing. Somehow, the rightwing punditocracy has... |
|
The rightwing punditocracy has somehow convinced the sheeple that they are for some kind of vague generic freedom, even while opposing religious freedom, sexual freedom, reproductive freedom, and a host of other personal freedoms.
It's weird and scary, at the same time.

I love the way they completely buy the bullshit about us "liberating Iraq" but at the same time they will justify America bombing and killing innocent Iraqi civilians.

14. 'free' to scream out their bigotry |
|
because they'd get run over if they did it on a streetcorner. That's what they mean.
Oh, you thought they were talking about "freedom", the stuff that sane people like that isn't imaginary, the stuff of dignity and nobility and lives lived worthily and greatly to high and spiritually real ends. This is a common error.
The "freedom" people like that are looking for involves torturing small furry animals, burning crosses on people's lawns, and discharging firearms at other people's windows and automobiles. It's all about depriving other people of their freedom (for everyone to be actually free strikes them as a kind of socialism of the limited quantity of freedom they can understand).
If you think their misconception of 'freedom' is perversion of the term, it shouldn't shock you what their misconception of 'republic' is either. The res element is all vanity, the publica stuff is all ego as it plays on that site (and any other). It's all about themselves. They have no principles other than their protection or expansion of their egos if you watch them for any length of time. There are no institutions of government they actually believe in or high interests they hold by consensus. They're nihilists and other forms of social failure.
Did I mention that Jim Robinson (the 'founder') is having a great time running the scam- it's all Willis Carto's insight about the loser Right straight up: there's an awful lot of easy money in championing lost causes and seemingly legitimizing idiocy. The most important thing in the game is: never let the suckers catch on that you're not a True Believer whatever embarrassment happens. In fact, the more those Evil Liberals pummel you, the more you can play on the losers' emotions and the more money you can yank out of them.
