Gene Taylor (D-MS) is ripping the House up on CSPAN... |
|
Edited on Wed Jul-16-03 09:15 PM by jchild
told the House, "Republicans, tell me you're proud of the largest deficit spending in U.S. history...tell me you're proud of owing 155 billion dollars to Communist China."
When the speaker told him to yield, that his time was up, he replied "I will yield when the Republicans leave their seats to go sign the balanced budget discharge petition."
Wow, I never knew that Taylor had it in him! He has never been my favorite Mississippi Dem Congressman, but he really impressed me tonight.
He signed the discharge petition on the vet bill on the first day it was put forth for signatures...I had emailed him and all MS legs about this, and he was the ONLY Mississippi legislator to reply, and he did so with a four-page letter--not a form letter, and a copy of the petition. He blamed republicans with playing politics with veterans' benefits.
I am starting to see him in a more favorable light...maybe the Bushcandal will polarize him even more.

LOL! As soon as I posted my thread, I went back IMMEDIATELY and read it, and found the error...but before I could correct it, I had two well-meaning DUers correct me! LOL!
Your comments have been duly noted; now, please go re-read the Gene's comments.
:hi: scarlet :-)
(I bet I could have made this error on Free Republic, and no one would have noticed! )

a week or two ago. He was doing the same thing, destroying the GOP saying things like, "Tell me you came to congress to bankrupt the country" and all kinds of other slams.

getting it's filthy hands on Social Security. He said, "Please tell me the name of the bank in which Social Security funds are deposited. You know there is nothing there but a governmental promise to repay."

8. He's the congressman for my district. |
|
I've never been overly fond of him, but he's been a little more interesting here lately. One thing he doesn't like to compromise on is veteran's benefits (our district has 2 military bases and lots of retirees). I hope he's starting to see the light!

|
public service. Ya know, he has a passle of little WASP mouths to feed, so he can justify it with that, and no one in his district will complain. (I won't complain, because then maybe we can bring Ronnie Shows back, even though he is more conservative than I like.)
Devlz, are you in the Hattiesburg area?? Gulf Coast??
Glad to have you on DU! The more Mississippians the better!

Where are you, Meridian? I'm a little fuzzy about that district since they changed them. I hope you're right about him retiring. I went to school with a relative of his when we lived around Laurel for a time. Scary guy!

He at least is not afraid to distinguish himself from the other party. If the DLCers would do a better job at that they would not have to worry so much about the Greens.

Democrats never treated the minority party like the GOP currently treats the Democratic members of the House. In 2006, I believe that Gene Taylor or Ronnie Musgrove will be the likely replacement of Trent Lott in the U.S. Senate. Perhaps the Republicans will become too arrogant for their wealthy campaign donors, and will soon tick off even most of the business community.
