Congress Bought Our Intelligence; therefore, I’m NOT to Blame. |
|
Even a cursory examination of that defense reveals it's lameness.
Starting with the fact that the Congress made its decision on intelligence estimates or summaries prepared by the administration. Congress is a consumer, not a producer of intelligence. It relies upon the immense intelligence capabilities of the Administration for the understanding of threats.
That aside, the one of the things that shoots down the argument is that the Congress was controlled by the Republicans, which would rubber-stamp any proposal put forward by the Bush administration. They do not question anything; they just nod and ask how high Bush wishes them to jump. Couple that the propaganda campaign that equated a vote against a Bush proposal as qualification for “Traitor,” there is little wonder any politician voted against going to war.
No, you can cut this anyway you want, but it is Bush’s War which was entered into with manipulated and faulty intelligence. Bush and the Republican toadies are the owners of the quagmire and there is no escaping that fact.

2. It'a a logical fallacy |

They are quite adept at basing policies on them. Unfortunately, as not many Americans even know such a thing exists, they fall for it.

But you should come by and watch with us. Some of the usual suspects can be found drooling and cheering for the man. Do you know where the Countdown/KO Group is? http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topics&forum=315

3. They pretended to fall for it for three reasons |
|
Edited on Fri Nov-11-05 10:45 PM by teryang
One- the Machiavellian WTC attack created a roman dictator whether they liked it or not.
Two- their corporate paymasters demanded it.
Three- the administration showed that it was willing to kill the opposition if necessary with the anthrax attacks.
(One of Congress' fundamental constitutional duties as the seat of sovereign power is to collect facts and inform the people - they deliberately abandoned this responsibility and with the exception of a very small democratic minority haven't bothered with it in years).
