Help the Pugs pick a candidate for 2008 |
|
I have come to the conclusion that the only way the Republican Party can save itself is to throw the 2008 presidential election. The reasoning is obvious: if the current batch of Republican leaders retains power after 2008, in 2010 a whole lotta conservatives are going to win Congressional seats on "throw da bums out!" platforms.
Note I said Conservatives. Not wingnuts, not Jesus Freaks, but good old fashioned responsible-spending, responsible-taxing, responsible-warring conservatives. You know, the kind of responsible people who today would be called moderate Democrats.
If, on the other hand, the Republicans run a really bad candidate in 2008 and convince Diebold to leave the election the hell alone, they can begin the Three Step Republican Recovery Program: admit that Grover Norquist and Pat Robertson killed the Republican Party, kick all of their ilk out of the Republican Party, and remold their party along the lines of Dwight D. Eisenhower instead of Ronald Reagan.
So! Throw out your choice for the candidate who's most likely to bring the Republican Party back to glory by getting his ass handed to him on November 4, 2008. Just pick your favorite not-yet-under-indictment neocon.

Pat Robertson and Zell Miller. Moral, centrist, bipartisan. Ready to lead America into the 16th century after they eliminate Venezuela.

Arnold wasn't born in the United States, and until they pass the 61st Amendment he can never be president.
Besides, with the mess he's made of California, the RNC would Wellstone him if he started to look like a contender.

15. Then let's get that puppy passed!* |

*along with an amendment that would allow Clinton another shot.
And I doubt he'd be more likely to be "Wellstoned" than any of these other disastrous "nominees". Remember, their arrogance leads them to believe that they can polish up and sell any turd--as long as there's an R next to the name.
*sigh* But if you insist...I'll withdraw Ahhhhnohld!!!! and submit Gov. Rick "Adios MoFo" Perry. All the stupidity of Shrub--none of the charisma.

Every Republican in America will stay the fuck home on Election Day.
Result: we get a veto-proof majority in the Senate, about four hundred seats in the House, and any Democrat we want in the White House. We also sweep the governor's races, really pad the hell out of the statehouses, and get the fundies off the school boards of America.
The inaugural address would be a LOT of fun: our guy points at Bush and speaks those words we all long to hear: "Marshals, hold that man."

11. Tancredo / Whoever's crazy enough to run with him - 2008! |
|
With his views on the war on terror, he could use Randy Newman's Let's Drop the Big One as his campaign theme song and with his immigration policies he would alienate a large segment of voters.

How about the Lieberman/Miller dream team? A moderate Republican to head the ticket and rabid attack dog as VP?
If I had to choose for them, that's about the best I could do.

25. Just one SLIGHT problem with that |
|
First we'd have to kick 'em out of the Democratic Party.
Besides, we're looking for a BAD candidate. Lieberman would be a decent Republican president--far better than the last five they've sent up there.
