13. I've been told that Mormons and LDS are split...
so they aren't the same thing, exactly....FWIW. I'm certainly no expert, though.
I think its sort of like Freewill Baptists and Southern Baptists.

Just wanted to throw irrelevant trivia in the ongoing insanity!

but regardless, anyone who thinks its a good idea to jump from a moving car has been watching too many saturday morning cartoons.

21. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints IS the Mormon Church
The Reformed Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a splinter group which is also polygamous.

38. at the Nauvoo IL museum
the LDS church has an info center on one side, the Reformed on the other.......each has a map of the houses, etc,......neither one has the info center of the other church on it's map

BTW, the museum is very well done and quite fascinating

one of the gun inventors, Remington??, was a Mormon and his workshop is on the museum map

14. Well it is sad
He was just 21, and these Mormon kids here in Utah have their religion shoved down their throat from such a young age. Probaly thought he was doing the right thing and would give testament at church and get brownie points from his bishop.

15. Ah, hipster Social Darwinism is on the scene!
And not a moment too soon -- there's another dead person to laugh at.

So is it a "BWA-ha" or a "MU-ha" or a "MWA-ha" or a "BU-ha" this time? And where's this  little guy been hiding? In the Skep forum?

You know, a lefty activist burned himself to death last night in Brazil to protest an alcohol processing plant. Where's the volunteer Darwin Awards flacks when you need them?

Just keep evoking Darwin -- the GOP does (except when it comes to evolutionary theory). Pretty soon, we'll have a bipartisan Social Darwinist Cacchinocracy.

28. Francisco Anselmo de Barros was 65, and was well past prime...
...reproductive age when he died, so he is by definition not Darwin Award material. This young LDS gentleman, on the other hand, effectively culled his own genetic legacy to prove a useless point. He was probably a virgin, for crying out loud.

16. his brothers?
Tyler Poulson was riding with his brothers last night when he became offended by one of them using profanity. Poulson, who recently returned from an LDS mission, threatened to get out of the truck if he continued. One of the men, not thinking he would, told Poulson to.

Uhhh... these were his brothers cursing and telling him to jump?

23. When I was 21, I was very moody
I remember hearing a song on a tape that made me feel depressed. I threw the tape out the window. Before it hit the pavement, and in the 15 or so ensuing years, I've thought it was a childish, melodramatic thing to do. But now, I feel a new sense of maturity, since I chose to throw a tape, and not my body, out of the car.

By the way, has anyone else conjured an image of the 2 surviving brothers? Do you remember the two brothers from Utah in the movie Ocean's Eleven?

27. Obviously he didn't know how to land.
They were only going about 35 mph. Unless he hit something hard and stationary, he should've been able to survive that. Tuck and roll, kids.

30. Only a little.
If he knew how to land, he would probably be alive today, though probably in the hospital. He wasn't going 35 mph straight into the ground, he was going 35 mph parallel to the ground. People on motorcycles have survived laying down their bikes at higher speeds than that. It's all how you land.

33. He was parallel to the ground for about 1 second, Hardly enough time
for air resistance to slow him down any. I think your physics is a little off. This would not be much like laying down a motorcycle. It would be more like being catapaulted over the handlebars of a motorcycle. You are not going to have time to "tuck and roll", I don't care how good you are at it.

The idiot's still dead because he couldn't stand to hear profanity.

37. Salt Lake Tribune reported it...
http://www.sltrib.com/search/ci_3211051

They didn't report the profanity angle, but there is not much detail.

"A South Jordan man who died Friday night when he jumped from a moving vehicle was identified as Tyler Paulson, 21. Police said Paulson was a passenger in the rear seat of a Dodge 4-door pickup. He opened the door and jumped from the truck near 10800 S. 1300 West about 6:15 p.m., said Deputy Chief Chris Evans. The truck was going about 35 mph. Paulson suffered severe head injuries. He was pronounced dead at Jordan Valley Hospital."
