INCUMBENT Santorum challenges his CHALLENGER to debates!
Edited on Mon Nov-14-05 06:39 PM by Bluebear
 Since when does a sitting Senator try to engage his CHALLENGER in a debate....a year ahead of time......"determined by you and I"!!!

=====

Sen. Rick Santorum has formally challenged his probable Dem opponent, Bob Casey Jr., to debates -- a year before the election.

"Dear Bob,

The election for the United States Senate is less than a year away, and there has already been tremendous attention paid to our expected match-up. Your campaign manager and your surrogates have been active in viciously attacking my positions and my record. However, so many in Pennsylvania know little about where you stand. I believe it is time for us to come together and approach these issues head-on through a series of debates. "

"My intention in this debate proposal is sincere, because I think it is imperative that you and I have an honest debate about the issues affecting Pennsylvania and the country. We have an obligation to inform the voters of Pennsylvania with our positions on the issues in a fair and objective forum. To that end, I propose that we have ten debates between now and Election Day. The first and last debate would focus on general topics, while the other eight would each focus on one issue."

"The specific details of each debate would be determined by you and I or our representatives. It is my sincere hope that you take this proposal seriously. Our forthrightness will be a benefit to Pennsylvania voters. Feel free to contact me through my campaign manager, Vince Galko, at 717-635-7184 so we may discuss this further. I look forward to hearing from you."

Sincerely,

Rick Santorum

United States Senate

The Dems haven't even chosen the candidate and satanorum is issuing challenges. Will he extend this challenge to the other Dems running as well?

I hope Bob Casey debates him later rather than sooner.

5. he's running 20-pts behind so he's desperate
Casey should say they will have as many debates as possible, but not until they are officially chosen as the nominees of their parties.

10. yes
and, since Bob Casey is 20 points ahead, there is no real reason to respond to the challenge.

6. Does Santorum do any work in the Senate?
If he has time to indulge himself w/ten debates in the next year, he should rescind his salary.

17. But he's got six kids to support!!!
Sorry, just saying what he'd probably say in response. Anyway, he does plenty of work in the Senate.

Lil' Ricky's daily schedule

1. Kiss W's ass.
2. Kiss Cat Killer Frist's ass.
3. Change positions daily.
4. Attack Kennedy, Clinton, and a Democrat du jour (in no particular order.)
5. Contradict self at least twice.
6. Offer some moral insight on how life should be lived in the 13th century...er, 21st century.

But seriously, as a Pennsylvanian represented by Santorum, I'm fine with him getting paid to do nothing. The more work he does in the Senate, the worse off I know I will be.

11. He just HAD to use the word "viciously", the little whiner!
"Oh, mommy, mommy, they talked mean to me!" Oh, wait, he would say "they talked mean to I." Hopefully he includes DUers among Casey's "surrogates" whom he charges with attacking him. It would be great to know that he actually hears/reads how much we despise and loathe him and his Opus Dei, and his bogus little 2 bedroom Pensylvania "residence" and mainly his monstrously inhuman political practises.

He is truly in the depths of desperation to challenge Casey to one, let alone TEN debates. If I were Casey's campaign manager I wouldn't even dignify the insulting request with a reply. If Ricky can't ask for something politely (without the "vicious" slur) he should just STFU.

13. An incumbent doing well would stay AWAY from debates.
This just shows how badly he's doing. He needs any kind of media attention to try to bring himself up. (Not happening.)

15. Correct the grammer and send it back to him...
Seriously, we should inundate his office with his letter edited in red pen and attach a bibliography of grammar texts. Really, it would be a kindness. He and his wife are home scholing their young'uns. Where else the children gonna get some learnin'?
