BREAKING, BUSH reacts: MURTHA playing the politics of Michael Moore
Edited on Thu Nov-17-05 07:53 PM by Bluebear
Breaking (CNN), "Congressman Murtha is a respected veteran and politician who has a record of supporting a strong America,” said White House press secretary Scott McClellan. “So it is baffling that he is endorsing the policy positions of Michael Moore and the extreme liberal wing of the Democratic Party."

===

Wowee, they are dragging out Moore for this! Can Streisand be far behind?

41. More like Hermann Goering than McCarthy!
"Naturally, the common people don't want war ... but after all it is the leaders of a country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is to tell them they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in every country." -- Hermann Goering

46. Here are some other Goering quotes you might find interesting...
... since they go right along with Bush's "guns, not butter" society:

Education is dangerous - every educated person is a future enemy.

Shoot first and ask questions later, and don't worry, no matter what happens, I will protect you.

Would you rather have butter or guns? Preparedness makes us powerful. Butter merely makes us fat.

Yesterday I said that sending Darth Cheney out to pimp the war was the stupidest thing The White House could do.

I stand corrected. This is.

They are trying to lump a Democratic hawk/Vietnam vet with Michael Moore?

Do these idiots have a CLUE as to what Murtha will fire back with??

38. Foolish, short-sighted and disasterous as a response goes.
did you see the reaction by the press in the C-Span talk? The press was shaking their heads mouthing "Wow" when Murtha was done. I noted a much more frigid response when the GOoPers did their talking points response.

What the Admin did in Scottie's response was to stab each and every war hero, veteran and injured soldier in the back. not only do they ignore (at their peril) the several reasonable points that Murtha made, they attack the messenger. Very unwise.

The soldier with boots on sand knows very well who Murtha is. He is one of the few who always goes to the hospitals, the air fields, even to Iraq. He meets and greets, and his are not photo-ops. If there is a problem, he gets it fixed. The troops know that. His word is good, and his words yesterday were great. Scottie totally mis read this situation.

GOP SOUR MOOD
From Hotline synopsis of its new poll:

GOP Cold Front

For months, Pres. Bush has been plagued by polls showing his lowest ever approval rating. But what hadn't faltered was Bush's support among GOPers, until now. The latest Diageo/Hotline poll (conducted by Financial Dynamics) reveals some cracks in the GOP foundation.

-- 60% of voters think the nation is on the wrong track and 41% of GOPers agree; that GOP "wrong track" number is the highest we've recorded. The previous GOPer "wrong track" high was 29% in Oct.

-- GOPers "strongly" approving of Bush's job has dropped to 37%, the lowest since this poll began, in Jan., down from 59% in 3/05.

-- Asked why voters disapprove of Bush, the top reason is Iraq. This is also the top reason among GOPers (34%).

-- Pluralities agree both Cheney (49%) and Rumsfeld (46%) do more to hurt Bush than help, 72% say Rice "mostly helps."

-- This admin-wide disapproval is seeping into Congress w/26% saying they will replace their current Rep., up from 19% last month. Among GOPers alone it increased from 10% to 26%.

49. There's that 37% figure again
A while back, I started to call w, Mr. 37%, but I kind of dropped it and had to set my sights on Mr. 29%. If I would have stuck to the 37, I would be looking like a real seer.
Now on comparing Moore and Murtha; It would first appear that there is no relation. But Murtha and Moore probably speak to more troops than anyone in the whole republican cabal. Moore's letters from soldiers tell a lot.
Funny how Moore or Move On.org are used as triggers to wake the bushbots 29%. The righties I talk to all hate Moore with a passion and the mere mention of his name makes heads explode. If only some of the lost 29% would take an honest look at Fahrenheit 911. Perhaps Murtha has viewed the film?

60. Murtha is a MARINE & Veteran, Michael Moore isn't!
What absolute assholes...I am willing to bet that Murtha just finally had enough.....My Father In-law who is a Navy Vet, my Stepfather who is a retired Colonel in the Army both were disgusted at Bush on Veterans Day for his little "political grandstanding".

My hunch is Murtha got tons of calls and it was the straw that broke the camels back....

Man, you know that the White House is desperate and pathetic if the best they can come up with is "Oh, he's like Michael Moore!"

PS: Memo to White House- Not only do you look ridiculous for making that comparison, your just going to show your true colors further, piss off the far right more, and even make Michael Moore more popular and richer.....

27. Because the White House is campaigning.
And BushCo. had success at rallying the base last year, by portraying Michael Moore as a leftist anti-American who hates the USA and must be ridiculed for the Glorious Commander In Chief.

They are calling out to their base to circle the wagons to protect them from further abuse by the mean Democrats (that they said had no backbone), extreme ultra liberal MSM (right wing owned), Republicans who have lost their minds (can't defend the obvious any more), activist prosecutors (uncovering their corruption), and a solid majority of Americans finally catching on to BushCo. fraud and the constant theft from 'We The People.'

Poppy doesn't want to claim IdiotSon anymore and would rather hang with the Big Dog, but soon Babs will come out to rip and chew America a new one for picking on her boy by being so mean and nasty to him with their disgraceful politics.

34. Dumb. Murtha is hughly respected in the military and by conservatives ...
... the legitimate ones, not the neoconsters. Smearing him, in any way, will take a significant chunk of that 34 % of Bush's "base."

I don't know why I can still be stunned by their stupidity but they did it again today by attacking Murtha.

The smartest thing Bush could have ever done in his life would have been to respond with "You know my fellow Americans, I respect the opinion of Congressman Murtha, as I know many of you do, and I'm going to work with him to determine if we need to do something different in Iraq."

The guys ratings would have been over 50 % in 24 hours.

Peace.

44. There's A Major Danger In Doing This
Since the support for the war has dwindled to perhaps under 30%, invoking Moore's name might get the middle to think "Gee, now that they bring it up, i guess Moore was right the whole time."

Then, instead of villifying Murtha, they resurrect credibility in Michael Moore. The people have already made up their mind about Iraq, and invoking the name of a guy who was vocally opposed to it the whole time is more likely to reinforce the "he was right" thought than scare people about "liberals".

This is some thin ice on which they are walking.
The Professor
