Why are the Republicans voting YES??
Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 09:41 PM by meganmonkey
Am I just too drunk to figure it out? (it is Friday :smoke: )

They are voting YEA to withdraw immediately?

on edit: you can all mock me if you want, but obviously I am not the only one confused. I didn't realize it was yet another procedural, but there are at least 3 versions below of what the actual procedure is... I am going with MADem's interpretation. Post #14

7. Because the Democrats are against it, no other reason
It's non-binding, so if it passes, doesn't mean we're on our way out.

11. Should we vote on the resolution?
yes means we should vote on the resolution (repubs telling dems "put up or shut up", force a vote on an idiotic resolution). If it passes, then 1 hour more debate then vote on the res.

15. On what? There was a procedural vote 2 hours ago
I thought this was the real thing.

I watched the debate, and then was talking with others in the room, and two minutes later the vote was happening.

I am confused. What procedure are they voting on now? They already voted on voting on the resolution :eyes:

14. They are voting YEA to put the votes of the people who want
to bring the resolution up for a vote on the record.

The GOP thinks it will be a BAD thing if some Democrats support withdrawal; that they will be viewed as unpatriotic by their constituencies.

They just did a voice vote, and the GOP wants everyone to put their name to their vote.

Those same people will vote no if we ever get that far.

23. It happened pretty quickly, the chair said the YEAS carried and that
GOP lady immediately moved for a recorded vote, and it was seconded in a flash, and then, like they are always doing now (doggone it) they turned off the damn sound, and then went to the call-in show.

It used to be, in the early years, they'd leave the sound on, and every now and again you could hear some snippets of interesting conversation.

God, this idiotic woman who is on the call-in right now must be in sugar shock from all the damn Kool Aid she's drinking.

She's waiting on a nuke-lee-ar bomb, and terrists in the street...and only the Monkey will save her!!!

33. The way they word it is different from Murtha
Murtha wants the troops to get out of the line of fire, but stay close enough to be able to go back in and stomp out shit if need be. The GOP wants it framed as a total "cut and run" action.

They crapped all over him, but now they are getting up and saying nice things about him, because treating him like shit is not playing well with their constituents...

Edited on Fri Nov-18-05 09:39 PM by louis c
Come on guys and gals, wake up.

It will allow another hour of debate on the resolution.

The first debate was about the vote of a rule change to allow this debate.

19. this is why you have WHIPS to tell you which way is UP
If Dems win this vote, the resolution to withdraw troops immediately is then NOT voted on. If pukes win, the resoluton to withdraw troops is then immediately voted on.

The pukes want to force half the Dems to vote against the immediate withdrawal, since half favor a scheduled withdrawal. This scheme by pukes is designed to kill the momentum of the anti-war sentiment, and split the Dems in the House.

I think it's not going to work out like the pukes wanted, however. The Dems who vote against will still be able to say half the House wants withdrawal, whether by schedule or otherwise.

Right now the Pukes are in disarray, so they are falling back on their "go-to" move, and that is always to be bigger a-holes, more oppressive, and more dogmatic.

Like they scorpion who road the frog into a watery grave, they can't change who they are.

I'm not troubled by all this. When we talk about the WAR, they lose.

24. I'm watching it on CSPAN right now.
The screen says: "Procedural Vote on Troup Withdrawal on Agreeing to the Resolution."
Right now, there are 203 Repub "YEA" votes.
On the "NAY" side are 6 Republican, 195 Democratic and 1 Independent.
I'm so confused by this, but the Repubs who have been speaking tonight have come off as such assholes.
