If Kerry had won there would be an organized mission in Iraq and timetable
President Kerry would not allow for piss-poor training of Iraqi troops. I remember during the first debate last year Bush was being vague of quotas/deadlines for Iraqi troop training, while Kerry actually had ideas of how to do it. I think he suggested training some of the troops out of the country. Had Kerry been elected, I believe that he would have set a quota deadline for number of troops to be trained by certain dates, thus giving us a clearer picture of when we can withdraw. We should withdraw, IMHO, as soon as possible. We should not stay there for five to ten years, but we should be gone sooner. Actually being serious about deadlines for arming and training the new Iraqi troops would be helpful in getting us to withdraw quicker.

5. I'm talking about if he got elected last year
I honestly don't think that any Democrat would have actually taken us there, except Zell or Joementum. I'm not even sure if McCain or Hagel would (in McCain's case, I just think he's kissing Bush's ass to drive up his favorability ratings within the party because in 2008.)

7. I guess it's a slip of mine
I'm thinking more of the popular vote, which he lost. It's possible that he won Ohio, but the uncertainties in Ohio should be for another thread. Anyway, I do not believe that Kerry would allow for this to drag on without action. If Kerry was President, there would almost definately be a timetable.

9. Bush won the popular vote 51%-48%

But I don't think he won Ohio. Bush did lose the popular vote for Gore by half a million votes in 2000.

You should donate during this drive. Then you could search the archives to help you maybe think otherwise.

Though if you don't think Kerry won the popular vote, well to each his own right?

Too funny! I am totally stealing that line for future arguments with ill-informed would-be progressives. HA HA HA HA HA!

Kerry served this country honorable. You disagree with him fine. You have no right to call him a coward.

19. Normally, I feel about as pessimistic as you, DanCa, but
this year will be the best Christmas I have had since...I don't even remember. Probably '99. Ah, X-mas '99. I was busy, but the world was sane. SANE.

Seriously, with the pessimism, I feel that, but this winter is going to be wonderful.

20. I think about that a lot. While I don't necessarily think that Iraq
would have become "John Kerry's war" as some have claimed in their attempts to make the Dems feel a little better, that's a possibility. An even stronger possibility, in my view, is that we would have had another "terrorist attack" or...something worse, as the result of the far right's reaction to Kerry's ascention to the WH. So, in a sense, you may be right, there are advantages for the progressive side of things the way they have worked out.

18. If the mission was bad to begin with.
no amount of tinkering can make it right.

If I break into a bank and then suddenly realize how wrong it is, its still wrong even if I mop the floor before leaving.
