So who is this Marine who supposedly wrote to Rep Jean Schmidt?
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 10:01 AM by DoYouEverWonder
Jean Scmidt read an outrageous letter on the floor on the Congress that she claims that she received from a Marine in Iraq. In the letter this 'Marine' address Rep. Murtha directly. Since most people probably had never heard of Murtha until Thursday, it seems amazing that someone sitting in Iraq would have been able to respond so quickly and with just the right talking points.

On the other hand, it seems much more likely that Scmidt made this letter up and if she did then she has committed forgery and probably a few other crimes, not to mention the ethics of doing such a thing. I don't know about anyone else, but I would sure like to find out more about this letter.

17. So here's the quote
Schmidt, a former state legislator who took office after a special election in August in which the war became the prominent issue, said a Marine colonel in Ohio had asked her to "send Congress a message: Stay the course."

"He also asked me," she said, "to send Congressman Murtha a message: Cowards cut and run. Marines never do."

There's a big difference between a Marine colonel in Ohio and a Republican Ohio State Representative. This is a gross manipulation of the facts and our troops on the part of this 1st term hack.

19. Anyone have a link to the video of Schmidt's little rant last night?
She told them, "A few minutes ago I received a call from Colonel Danny Bubp," an Ohio legislator and Marine Corps Reserve officer. "He asked me to send Congress a message: Stay the course. He also asked me to send Congressman Murtha a message: that cowards cut and run, Marines never do."

Here's a different version of what she supposedly said, so I would like to know which one is correct. Thanks.

Let's try to find out who the marine was. Undoubtedly there was no such person. To prove it would shame Schmidt.

6. Col. Bipee or BUPAR or something
He's a Republican congressman from Ohio, actually. The first thing she mentioned was from the father of a soldier killed in Iraq. Then she went directly into what she claimed was relaying a message from her House colleague from Ohio....Rep. Bipidee...still not getting it right, but I press on.

Whatever his name is, you can bet she's hitting the speed dial every 2 minutes trying to get him to convene a press conference so he can share the blame. You can also bet that he's not going anywhere near that phone. And Jean Schmidt isn't going to have anyone to go to lunch with anymore.

8. Danny R. Bubp (R)
Edited on Sat Nov-19-05 10:01 AM by IanDB1
Here's the contact info for the "Marine" whose letter she read

How brave he is to let the war continue while he's safe at home whoring for the GOP.

Danny R. Bubp (R)
District 88
Address:
77 S. High St
11th Floor
Columbus, OH 43215-6111
Telephone: (614) 644-6034
Fax: (614) 644-9494
Email Address: district88@ohr.state.oh.us

http://www.house.state.oh.us/jsps/MemberDetails.jsp?DISTRICT=88

Bubp also attacked Hackett's patriotism during the congressional elections.

http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20050801/NEWS01/508010350

The event was billed as a rally to honor veterans and local residents serving in Iraq, but much of the speech-making - particularly from State Rep. Danny Bubp, R-West Union - consisted of criticizing Hackett, an Iraq war veteran, for his differences with President Bush and the administration's policies in Iraq.

Bubp - who, like Hackett, is a Marine Corps Reserve officer - stood under the helicopter's wings in his military dress uniform, saying that the one thing military officers do not do "is criticize their commander in chief."

"I served for eight years under a president who loathed the military but we never said a word about it," Bubp said.

Max Cleland, the former Democratic senator from Georgia who lost both legs and an arm serving in Vietnam, campaigned again with Hackett Sunday and said the Republicans' criticism of Hackett was "just wrong."

"They say they support the troops," Cleland said, "but they won't support this troop."

I've already posted two other press reports that quote what she said last night. Funny neither one matches exactly and now you've added a third version. That's why I'd like to see the video again.

88th Dist. choices clear

October 29, 2004

Danny Bubp, a West Union attorney facing retired educator Cy Richardson for the Ohio House of Representatives seat here, believes that's why he'll win.

Bubp, who grew up in Sardinia, calls the 88th district a "good Christian community" that's against abortion and same-sex marriage and protective of its right to bear arms.

"That's the kind of district I want to serve in," said Bubp, 50.

Bubp represented the West Union School District in the Ten Commandments court battle, and during the Iraq war, the Marine Reserve colonel worked at U.S. Central Command.

26. I doubt it
There's not much info about what he ever actually did in the military. However to make Colonel he must have do something?

The only thing I've found so far is that during the Iraq war, the Marine Reserve colonel worked at U.S. Central Command.
