PLEASE READ !! Time for Congress to impeach Bush !!!
The U. S. Constitution allows the president to be impeached for "Treason, bribery or other high crimes and misdemeanors."

The time has come for Congress to impeach President Bush. Articles of Impeachment should include at least:

1. Treason - squandering the U.S. military.
The strength and ability of the U.S. military have been recklessly weakened by consuming it in conflicts that is not in our national interest.

2. Agreed. It must start in the House. Have Murtha lead the charge.
Cheney is Locutius. Murtha is, well, maybe not this, but worth a look. Sorry, it's Saturday.

11. I am juvenile tonight. Murtha's hair was not gray when he saw this one.
Maybe this did it. But, Geez, and wow. I will return to politics when Saturday turns to Sunday. Enough.

3. Meanwhile, in the real world:
My thanks to DUer elperromagico for this post, which I am reposting.

1. The House Judiciary Committee deliberates over whether to initiate an impeachment inquiry.

2. The Judiciary Committee adopts a resolution seeking authority from the entire House of Representatives to conduct an inquiry. Before voting, the House debates and considers the resolution. Approval requires a majority vote.

At present, the political composition of the House is 232 Republicans, 202 Democrats, and 1 independent.
In order for the House Judiciary Committee to begin an impeachment inquiry, at least 218 aye votes must be cast. If every Democrat and Bernie Sanders voted "aye," 15 Republican votes would still be needed.

3. The Judiciary Committee conducts an impeachment inquiry, possibly through public hearings. At the conclusion of the inquiry, articles of impeachment are prepared. They must be approved by a majority of the Committee.

At present, the political composition of the House Judiciary Committee is 21 Republicans and 16 Democrats.

In order for articles of impeachment to be approved by the Committee, at least 19 "aye" votes must be cast. If every Democrat voted "aye," 3 Republican votes would still be needed.

4. The House of Representatives considers and debates the articles of impeachment. A majority vote of the entire House is required to pass each article. Once an article is approved, the President is, technically speaking, "impeached" -- that is subject to trial in the Senate.

In order for those articles of impeachment to be passed, at least 218 aye votes must be cast. If every Democrat and Bernie Sanders voted "aye," 15 Republican votes would still be needed.

5. The Senate holds trial on the articles of impeachment approved by the House. The Senate sits as a jury while the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial.

6. At the conclusion of the trial, the Senate votes on whether to remove the President from office. A two-thirds vote by the Members present in the Senate is required for removal.

The present composition of the US Senate is 55 Republicans, 44 Democrats, and 1 independent.

In order to remove a President from office, 67 votes are necessary in the Senate. If every Democrat and Jim Jeffords voted "aye," 22 Republican votes would still be needed.

7. If the President is removed, the Vice-President assumes the Presidency under the chain of succession established by Amendment XXV.

------------
All who have posted the impeachment fantasy have had a roadmap that ALWAYS includes MAJOR REPUBLICAN HELP. Not just one or two, but MAJOR help.

14. The makeup of the House WILL be different in just under one year...
Impeachment is difficult, but by no means impossible, if we take back the House and gain some seats in the Senate. Certainly not impossible considering the latest unrest amongst the citizenry. Bush voters are turning on him and the Republicans in droves. The majority of people now say they identify themselves as Democrat instead of Republican.

And if Dems take the House (yes a big "if" but it CAN happen), then guess who is third in the line of succession to the Presidency?! The answer (as you know) is Speaker of the House - which would then be (in one year from now) the majority Democratic party, which could very well be the esteemed Madame Speaker Pelosi!

And I believe that I read somewhere that is possible for the House to skip the Judiciary Committee inquiry (and vote), and for a Resolution to go straight to the floor for debate and vote.

5. I don't believe impeachment will happen while the thugs
maintain the majority.

Work for 06 now!

Get progressives elected!

Don't stop calling and trying to make the republicans hold these criminals accountable, but just get busy getting Dems/progressives in office in 06.

I can't even THINK about it without :nuke:

But, that's spot on, in my opinion.

12. DU meeds to come up with its own articles of impeachment, to be reviewed
by the DU 'legal eagles,' and a letter urging impeachment to be written by DU authors (just look at the DU Community response to two recent letters of support for Senator Reid and Congressman Murtha, both written by Will Pitt!) Once the letter is written and agreed upon, we should send it daily, every time we log on to DU, to all members of the House and Senate, and if DU deems it necessary, to M$M. Skinnner could set up a separate thread, like we did in the post-debate polls. All we would need to do, every time we sign on, is send the same letter. We could swamp their e-mails! Let's get started on this!

15. Glad this thread stayed as silly as it started. Impeachment by whom?
By the clowns that pulled last night's stunt?
There were ample reasons since the stealing of the 2000 election, with new ones added every day. We never lacked for reasons - it's just that they grabbed all branches of government, so impeachment is a pipe dream.
