Born before the other JM got famous though. Not named after him. Which at one time would've been cool but DAMN he's hit rock bottom...

8. That doesn't speak well for most folks. |

They can see but they are blind. They can hear but they are deaf. Keller was blind but could see. Deaf but could hear.

6. Helen was a diehard lefty |
|
You'll never hear that about her, though. Just the "Miracle Worker" story.
She's on the Alabama state quarter. Wonder how many fundie Alabamians know about her politics.
She always made me proud to be a native Alabamian.

I only recently, through reading Howard Zinn's 'A People's History of the United States', found out that Helen Keller was a pretty left-wing activist.
1 - How did I not know that?
2 - Why is she so trumpeted in public schools, movies, etc? (granted, they erase most of her activism, reducing it to 'acceptable' ideas, with no mention of s-s-s-socialism). I mean, isn't this like having a lesson on Emma Goldman in the 3rd grade (NEVER gonna happen)?

in this country's schools. The righties have a stranglehold in that area. That needs to end.

I remember watching a documentary with JFK and his asssination and basically the voice-over person said how only the one's in power can write the history.

as dumb as possible. I still can't see people like Howard Zinn being allowed to write high school textbooks in this country.
