YoKo pissed that "Dateline" gave airtime to the murderer.

OK, I wept as heard the news of John Lennon's death and the senseless way he was taken from us and Yoko has every right to be pissed about how its handled in the media. That said, I think its fair enough to keep Chapman out of the media as long as Yoko agrees not to sing anymore.....

Yoko Ono is furious at "Dateline NBC" for marking the 25th anniversary of husband John Lennon's murder by giving airtime to his killer.
"The timing of this is macabre," Ono's spokesman, Elliot Mintz, tells us. "She thinks it's outrageous."

Assassin Mark David Chapman has been interviewed before by Larry King, Barbara Walters and other journalists, including Chapman biographer Jack Jones, who provided his audiotapes to NBC.

"We're not going to learn anything new from him," argues Mintz. "NBC granted an assassin's wish. It sends out a message to other disturbed people that killing is a way to fame."

An NBC spokesman declined to comment, but noted that "Dateline" did air Mintz's objections on its program last Friday. Mintz said Ono was unlikely to listen to Chapman's rantings, now or ever. As for the Dec. 8 anniversary, she and son Sean plan to stay inside their apartment at the Dakota, where Chapman gunned down his hero on the street.

1. Not a Yoko fan but I'm with her on this one
I don't give a damn what that fundie freak has to say. He took away one of the greatest poetic minds of the 20th century. I wonder how the freeps would feel if Hinckley was interviewed on the aniversery of Reagan's death.(yes it didn't kill him but none-the-less.)

17. I agree - that asshole should get NO AIRTIME
I'm not a big fan of Yoko's, but I totally agree with her. The monster (I refuse to even type his name) who killed her husband should not get one second more of airtime!

If this son of a bitch is ever parolled, he won't last ten seconds in the outside world, you can bet that.

2. I'm opposed to capital punishment, but if someone shot Chapman
I'd vote for a pardon.

3. Assassin?
It seems odd to me to see Chapman called an assassin. Was he serving anyone's purposes other than his own? Is there a difference between murder and assassination? I thought there was. Huh.

I kind of like Yoko's singing. In small doses. :)

8. The dictionary definition fits Chapman perfectly
Assassin -

One who murders by surprise attack, especially one who carries out a plot to kill a prominent person.

25. Thanks.
I guess I need a better dictionary. My Webster's suggests "impersonal" and or political motivations in the definitions of both "assassin" and "assassinate".

Sorry if I've spread my own confusion around. Thanks for the clarification. :)

They should leave MDC alone and focus on Lennon's life.

15. His son thinks he was assassinated even within the realm of conspiracy
Edited on Mon Nov-21-05 08:38 PM by IChing

"John Lennon's youngest son yesterday blamed the fatal shooting of his father almost 20 years ago on a conspiracy backed by the United States government."

Chapman has a strange historical background and family connections

you decide:

this one has even more links to the "World Vision" organization that Chapman was a member of in Laos.

20. Please take off the jfkmontreal link. It has a link about
"to read about the Zionist control of the media" and is offensive.

Thanks.

5. It does send the Wrong message..
but that's the American media for ya.

I don't watch shite like that but I'm sure many many people do and get into their addled brains that .."hey, he killed someone famous and now he's famous"..although the description should be "infamous".

Why should they let that maniac have a national voice, anyway?

Why do we need to know anything about this murderer....he is never going to get out of jail.....he is never, again, going to walk among us....we don't need to know his name and we don't need to know what he looks like. He deserve nothing, nothing.

He should be locked in a hole never to be heard from again.

He silenced a wonderful voice. Let him be silenced as well.

Who the fuck cares what the evil toad has to say?

14. That's what I did too.
I thought there would be more John less creep. I have to agree with Yoko on this I can't imagine what the idiots at Dateline were thinking.

I tuned back in during the last couple minutes and heard them mention there will be a memorial at Strawberry Fields this year - I would love to be there.

16. I also agree with her - it's beyond macabre
Lennon's words always resonate most strongly this time of year and it's repugnant to choose this time to give a voice to his killer. It's not as if he's been denied his chance to speak before now.
