My last thought before beddybye, inspired by others here tonight.
Yes, many Senate dems have their own plans for iraq, each of which they consider to be the best scenario for winning at home and abroad. Each have their opinions and strategies. Some are closer together, others further apart. But that is what democracy is for! At the end of the day the house and congress leadership are supposed to take the best of the best, come up with debate, try and reach consensus then pass it on to the administration.
Granted, that would've worked back when there was any bi-partisan spirit left in congress, long such gone now. Now we are on our own, and in not enough numbers to win the battle on the floor regardless of what plan they have. To get any bill passed they would need some moderates approval. Hmmm. couple of those plans are out now. Others might need longer stays until we repair what we destroyed. Ok. There are many plans, but all lacking the numbers necessary to proceed with those plans, until they can all come to the table, including the moderates on both sides, and give and take the issues until there is something they can stand together with in the house to pass.
So I don't get all this bickering these last few days on who's who's plan on what's what, when even here on DU we haven't come up with one unified plan. Posters go at it left and right with each other over whos plan is better and such. His is the best, Hers is the best. THen, if the Senators did agree on one plan of theirs, the bickering here would still continue with "they chose the wrong plan" or "why'd they choose his plan" or "Dean's plan would've been better"
My point of my ambien induced shouldn't still be awake brain is that they are still for the most part unified in their message and their fight, but still are holding onto their own individual components that they feel will win the battle. Ultimately yes, they need to hone out exactly what it is they are strategizing, and stick to it. But that can be tough to do.
So having that said, I have an idea for DU that I really really really want you all to take seriously. I really would love to see this done, with the purist of intentions. A DU Senate Group. Take 50 of our most passionate, educated, and politically savvy members and start a group. Draft the ultimate plan that you all reach on consensus, and then present it back to us. If the majority of DU on a whole can sign off on it, we can send it to all of the senators for perusal. But I think it would be a great excercise in the complexities of this. Start a DU group. Recruit 50 passionate, intelligent, savvy members, and craft the out of iraq plan!
Anyone for it?
