John but lots of people referred to him as Jack too. Jack for John? don't understand, just an observation...

6. Jack is a dirivative of John. My couse Jack was really named John.
Known a couple of men called Jack that were really Johns. It's a term of familiarity.

15. I thought the john=jack was common of people of irish roots.
I have two cousins and one uncle named john in my family.We call all three of them Jack.I have no idea why but I have noticed it with the irish.
