Alabama governor sent other 49 states letters urging them to BOYCOTT ARUBA

The Associated Press

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (AP) — Gov. Bob Riley has sent letters to the 49 other American governors, urging them to join him in a boycott of Aruba on behalf of the family of missing Alabama teen Natalee Holloway, but it's unclear how many governors will support the move.

In the letters, dated Nov. 17, Riley blames the Aruban government for what he called "missteps, miscommunication and inconsistencies" plaguing the investigation into the 18-year-old's disappearance....

Dompig last week confirmed that Aruban authorities have investigated Holloway's relatives to "exclude all possibilities" and still consider the three island men to be suspects in her disappearance.

Dompig also has said he believes Holloway's mother, Beth Twitty, has hurt the investigation by releasing sensitive information during her frequent appearances on U.S. television shows. He said Holloway's classmates need to be questioned more because of "disturbing" statements they've made on TV and the Internet.

1. Someone had a list of missing kids in Alabama. Can I assume we'll be...
...boycotting them too?

3. I understand his concern regarding this case but
are there any other suspicious deaths in Alabama where the victim is not a young white female.

There must been be some unsolved murders in Alabama involving victims of color that concern him. Why has he not called all the other states about them. Could racism possibly be involved?

10. Do all 50 Governors know that there are still nearly 7,000
Americans missing from hurricane Katrina and the media has given more time to this one woman, than to any one of the relatives of those victims of the worst disaster in recent history?

I wonder if Florida's Governor will consider this one woman more important than all the children who have disappeared in his state?

I hope Alabama now realizes that they need a new governor, and maybe if it's possible, they should not wait for an election. Can you recall governors in Alabama?

13. I guarantee that most Americans didn't know where Aruba was
until this media circus got going. I haven't watched anything about the case because, really...why the hell bother? I don't watch TV much, anyway, so why waste whatever screen time I have on crap that cynically exploits tragedy by spewing forth endless hours of essentially empty air time punctuated by appearances by dubious 'experts' that you never see or hear of again. Ditto OJ and other circuses....never watched a second of the OJ debacle, because it was so apparent that it was just total BS and even the non-BS portions would be rendered in to BS by the friendly f***wits in the US media machine.

I'm sorry for the loss of the young woman in question, but the fact is that a bazillion and a half other people have died, been tortured, or gone missing around the world in the days since she was first reported missing. Some even in Alabama, I'm thinking. Either way, the reportage (and I choke on using that word in this context) and hysteria, undoubtedly with strong xenophobic and other undesirable undertones, is a tad out of proportion to the actual story. Sad fact of life that, in today's world, a person's life ending even in a violent fashion barely registers (if at all) in even some of the smaller municipalities' newspapers, though it'll make the TV news if they have video (breaking news! someone died!). So why her?

Is she the new JonBenet?

Further to my subject line, I bet that most Americans didn't know where Iraq was, either, before they started revving up for Desert Storm. If Americans actually knew where they were -- and, yes, I've seen plenty abroad who know asolutely nothing about the country they're in and plenty who don't even care one morsel about that fact -- maybe they wouldn't go missing so often.

Hmmm...maybe I should sign up as an expert on Aruba. After all, I not only know where it is and a few other things about it but know where Bonaire and Curaçao are, too. I even know that the ABC Islands are turf belonging to the Nether Regions. Probably puts me ahead of most news anchors, right there.

14. Southern trees. . . .bear a strange fruit. . . .
mmm..I'm sorry, but this is the state where a representative tried to introduce legislation banning all books that even mentioned a gay character from any public library or institution.

And with its own tainted history of unsolved lynchings, bible-thumping justices, and hateful rhetoric, I've been boycotting Alabama for years myself.
