I don't think they care one iota whether or not he's a true Christian as long as he continues to do their bidding by pushing anti-gay laws and appointing anti-choice people to the judiciary. All other issues seem to be irrelevant to them. I don't even think they'd care that the RNC refers to them as "whackos" as long as they stick to the agenda.

If they ever get rid of Roe V Wade or ban gay marriage for sure all over the country they know they (the republicans) will lose any potential voters in the future. He said the Harriet Myers nomination was, for much of the right-wing, the first time they'd ever been on the 'other side of that (Bush Admin.) arrogance', and they didn't like it. He may have been speaking more of the Federalist Society sorts, but I think it applies to the religious right as well.
