Please check this out and give me your opinion! RE: Christmas
My major freep of a brother just sent this to me. I'm shocked! What am I missing? OTOH, I'm surprised CostCo is on here. Thoughts?

Companies Ban 'Christmas,' Not Worried About Backlash

Several retailers have joined in the push to ban the use of "Christmas" in their in-store promotions and retail advertising. The new push to ban "Christmas" and replace it with "Happy Holidays," "Season's Greetings," etc. is gaining ground with several retailers participating.

So far, the list includes Kmart, Sears, Kohl's, Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, Costco, JC Penney, Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Kroger, Office Max, Walgreens, Staples, J.C. Penney, Dell and Best Buy.

A Petition To Stop The Ban On The Use Of "Christmas" By Major Retailers

I am offended by the move to ban "Christmas" by major retailers. I care enough to take into consideration the actions of any company which bans "Christmas" when I do my shopping. If they don't care if they offend me by failing to recognize the Reason for the season, there are other companies that do with whom I can do business.

2. What a bunch of babies the AFA are
Thanks for the list; now I know where I can shop. :D (Well, not that I'd patronize a number of those, for entirely different reasons.)

Every year, the war on the imaginary war on Christmas starts a little bit earlier. :eyes:

6. I disagree
I like the move to "Happy Holidays" it is all inclusive and repels no one. It also covers Thanksgiving through the New Year.

I am a librarian in an metro area with all types of people. Our library has a "holiday reception" during the beginning - middle of December. We either include all religions and their various holidays or do none of them. Many years we have had a winter festival with crafts like making snowflakes, have family films doing winter type of stories and activities. Other years we have had our showcases filled with artifacts from all the major religions and books on each religion and the events for winter for each.

12. What are you disagreeing with?
I'm saying the same thing you are...maybe not very coherently (me, that is, not you!). :) Maybe I misunderstood what the list was, but I thought it was stores supposedly "banning" Christmas in favor of Happy Holidays...which is fine by me, and thus I'll make a point of shopping there, because I appreciate their consideration of all customers.

28. Happy Holidays is what the retailers WANT. The RW religious wacko nut jobs
want the WORD "CHRISTMAS" used in ALL advertising OR they will boycott the stores listed above. At least, that's MY read on it. ;)

3. The words don't matter anymore in a post-literate world.
It's all about the images, and as long as there's plenty of red and green, and Santa Claus figures, it has enough commercial connection to the Christmases of all living Americans to move the Chinese crap out the door.

i stopped celebrating X-mas years ago for strictly emotional reasons, but it still affects me...because it's frigging everywhere!!!! These people need to get a hobby, have sex, start doing drugs..do something...and leave the non-christians or those that choose to do business like a business...alone.

9. nice propaganda
I like how they make it sound like a coordinated effort, instead of a business decision made independently by several corporations. They just forgot to explicitly blame the Jews and gays for this. :eyes:

10. They need to get a life.
I guess there is nothing more important to get worked up over than some company saying happy holidays.

Look folks. Xmas was a pagan holiday. Yule log and all. The Xions took all the pagan holidays and made them Xian holidays.

Happy winter solstice to all my friends and happy yule too.

13. It's kind of funny, I already decline to shop at almost all of those
stores listed anyway, for various reasons including bad labor practices, selling goods made in sweatshops, donations to republicans, and simply for being in a mall because this monkey doesn't step foot in the mall. It's kind of funny to me that they are 'petitioning' against the stores for such a different reason.

I wonder, though, if they will have the moral courage not to buy any cheap plastic crap from these places to wrap and put under the tree. Why don't they actually boycott? Can't stand the thought of not shopping?

14. So is this the current argument, that the
wingnuts don't want the word 'Christmas' banned? I guess the way this is worded is confusing me. It's insinuating they don't want any terminology banned, and I felt hope for my deluded brother. Now I remain unconvinced.

17. dear bro, thanks
for doing all the research so i know where to shop! OR

didn't jesus tell us to love one another as we love ourselves & to be tolerant & respectful of everyone? are you saying jesus was wrong? how does forcing people to say "merry christmas" fit in with all that? is there a bible verse you can give me so i can look it up myself, especially one of those "red letter" ones?*

also, didn't jesus teach that we should live by example and not make a big public "show" of being christians, because that meant we were more concerned with showing off for others than loving god? you know, that stuff he said about the pharisees & praying in your closet & stuff.

*red letter verses are those supposedly said by jesus, usually found in old copies of KJV.

I realize that the sarcasm may fly completely over your brother's head, but it gets the point across, esp. if you hit "reply all."

no, i've never done anything like that. O8)

19. The Reason for the Season
isn't shopping.

It also may not be Jesus, depending on the religion.

Tell your brother to go work at a food bank for the duration, then get back to you on how important 2 words are. And to shut up about the "reason for the season" until he does.

Kwanza, Chanukah, for starters.

Happy Holidays is good.

Only talkers, Feaux, and the rat wangers are getting worked up about this to raise money and stir up the base.

Whiny ass babies!:grr: Why does it surprise you that Costco is on the list? What's wrong with the all inclusive "Happy Holidays?" That includes EVERYONE'S holiday...not just Christians. These people are really grating on my nerves. It's like clockwork EVERY year....they start this shit right around Thanksgiving and keep it going long enough to ruin everyone's "HOLIDAY." I really wish they had their own damn country and just leave us alone. I'm sick of them and I pity the poor sucker who first wishes me a "Merry Christmas." :grr: Bah Humbug!
