If America bans Abortion, the country will soon collapse |
|
America is like an electrical thing or something.
We have way too many plugs stuck into the wall.
If America makes any change that goes to Totalitarianism (Such as banning Abortion), I don't think the country will be able to enforce it, and if it tried to it would not have the resources to do it.

4. That seems a bit melodramatic |
|
The same thing would happen that happened last time we banned abortion -- the same amount would take place, only it would be performed without sanitation or proper medical training, resulting in unnecessary pain and suffering for scores of women. Which, of course, is what the fundies have always wanted -- if God won't punish the sinful, by God, make the government do it! :-(

6. The Fundies would also pay. |
|
They have abortions also, and even go back to picketing clinics (or heading up the campus Right to Life Committee) when they are done. They make excuses about their situation being "different", not like those "slutty girls".
I knew a counselor once who worked with a fundie family whose 15 year old daughter got pregnant. They wouldn't get her an abortion, but against her preference, placed the baby up for adoption (arm-twisting and manipulation). She was pregnant again in less than a year. This time the father said he was going to make her have an abortion because he couldn't put his whole family through that again. I don't know how the story ended.

|
Is there any American that doesn't know how and where to buy some pot if they wanted too. Why again am I wasting tax money to fight "drugs" when clearly Americans only care about being caught.

13. A ban is not going to happen. |
|
The Republicans will never ban abortion. They need abortion to mobilise their fundie base to vote, it's the only issue that gets a lot of them out. A ban would demobilise a lot of their supporters while mobilising a lot of people against them.
HOWEVER - they can make abortion a far more humiliating and horrible procedure than it already is, and restrict access to it.
But there is no outright ban on the horizon.

22. abortion ban can will happen & here is how |
|
There are probably several cases in the "pipeline" right now that will place various restrictions on abortion in several states. A Roberts-Alito court will uphold those bans in say the summer of 2006.
What happens then is a HUGE push by the fundies in at least 15-20 more states to get those same restrictions enacted in those 15-20 states. This gets on the ballot in some of these states in the fall of 2006.
Furthermore, a few more states try to go even further than that - either stronger restrictions, or outright bans. Those get overturned or set aside on appeal. However, this mobilizes the fundies even more for even greater pushes in 2007 and 2008.
Pretty soon, just about every state has abortion restrictions on the ballot.
Meanwhile, the laws set aside or overturned by the appellate courts makes its way to the Roberts-Alito Supreme Court in 2008 or 2009 and the appeals court gets overturned & the further restrictions or bans are upheld.
From there, the fundies mobilize to wear down each state one-by-one over the next 10-12 years, giving each state a big push with money, votes, donations, etc in attempts to ban abortion on a state by state basis.
So, by the time 2020 rolls around, many states will have banned abortion, or at least severely restricted it.
and, don't get me started on gay marriage bringing out the fundies, or "saving Christmas" or protecting the young from Hollywood & video games.

14. Won't happen and here is why! |
|
Banning abortion KILLS the GOP. There are PLENTY of one issue voters here in the south. If they get their wish on abortion, they can then stay home on voting day.

all see the same paradigm shift away from the Right wingnuts should Roe fall. Thing is, them bastards ain't dumb either. They know this, so how do they keep it going into perpetuity. I see them really in a box on this issue. Here is one to watch in '06. Moderate Repuke Gove of BAma, Bob Riley v. Judge Roy Moore of Ten Commandments fame in the Repuke primary. The blood is just about to spill!

20. What Happens when People take Drugs. |
|
Not really. All that would happen from an abortion law is that the practice would go underground, where it is unsafe and unsanitary. "As long as we don't see it" seems to be the mentality taken by the pro-life.
