---if Bornagains Ruled the Land---- |
|
if we descended into a bornagain theocratic nation:
no more abortions! no more homosexuality! no more false gods or any other gods before us! half of our taxes go to the church! no more catholics or jews! total war on all islam! no more science taught in schools! no more public schools! enforced prayer in all public places! re-education camps for non believers! the ten commandments posted everywhere and strictly enforced! public stoning of all whores! witches burned as fuel! beheading for adulterers! censorship and decency strictly enforced! strict controls on all art and music!
the possibilities are all so exiting!

7. Please Don't Malign All Born Agains |
|
I personally am not a Christian, but there are Born-Agains and Fundamentalists who are good Liberals. The problem is, by adhering to Jesus' admonishment against making a show of their faith, they are ceding the public image of Fundamentalist Christianity to the Pat Robertsons and Jerry Falwells (Pharisees)
Some one else here on DU once suggested referring to them as Radical Clerics, and I like that. Sometimes I refer to them as "Christians" - but I worry even that can be insulting.

12. Cooking of Science Curricula, US Would Become 2nd Rate Power |
|
Edited on Tue Nov-29-05 11:20 PM by VogonGlory
If the Talibornagains took over, science curricula would be re-written to push the Born-again's pet young earth notions. We aren't simply talking about re-writing biology textbooks here to edit out "evil-ution," we are talking about cooking geology textbooks to exclude geological processes and include a "great flood," physics and chemistry courses to deny radioactive decay, and astronomy courses to eliminate ideas of light being older than six to ten thousand years old.
US science education would become a world-wide joke and at best, US science graduates would hope to be tinkerers and at worst drones and bottle washers while scientific advances would go abroad.

15. A Point To Be Hammered Home |
|
Edited on Wed Nov-30-05 08:31 AM by VogonGlory
I think that this is a point that ought to be hammered home, that the Talibornagains are not just taking aim at biology, but also at chemistry, physics, geology, and other physical sciences. The sciences are an essential if the US doesn't want to fade into a has-been economic power the way that Britain did after World War II and Spain did even before the Industrial Revolution.
The people who are loudest in pushing so-called "intelligent design" are also on the so-called "Christian" broadcasting stations pushing the "young earth" (The Earth is no more than 6K to 10K years old) notion and other codswallop.

16. Public Health Likely To Take A Big Hit |
|
Public health is likely to take a severe blow if the Talibornagains take over. At best, contraceptives are likely to be restricted to married couples only, and pharmacists will be required to determine if one of the persons asking for such is actually married--or risk fines and imprisonment. Certain forms of contraception currently available, like the pill, are likely to be outlawed as "abortifacients."
Of course we all know that if the Talibornagains took over, abortion would be outlawed, probably with no exceptions for the health or health of the mother, and that there'd be little squads of pious stoolies and godly tattletales if desperate women went abroad for medical treatment.
While pianistic lurkers would doubtlessly be pleased about such affairs, they'd be less happy with the other probable consequences.
Venereal diseases, not limited to but including HIV, herpes, HPV, would skyrocket. Minors would hesitate to seek treatment lest they be prosecuted for moral delinquency. Such epidemics would cause not only numerous birth defects, but also widespread sterility, too.
The HIV problem would be the biggie. Without any information on contraceptives and sexual hygiene (except for pat little speeches claiming that condoms don't work), many people of both genders would be ripe for being infected with the AIDS retrovirus. The US may not end up with the numbers of infections of southern Africa, but it would be far, far higher than other industrialized countries and probably much higher than most of the other countries in the western hemisphere.
