ALEXANDRIA, Va. – On Tuesday a jury in Virginia rejected claims of an Arab-American college student, who argued he was tortured into confessing he plotted to kill President Bush.
Ahmed Omar Abu Ali was convicted of joining al-Qaeda and plotting an assassination.
Abu Ali claimed Saudi authorities whipped and tortured him into making a false confession.
The 24-year-old could get life in prison. Charges include conspiring to kill the president and providing support to al-Qaeda.
Ali was born in Houston to a Jordanian father and raised in Falls Church, Va. He was arrested in June of 2003 at a Saudi Arabian university.
Ali did not testify at his trial.
