The Emperor's New Restricted Airspace
The emperor's new restricted airspace

His top aide's been indicted, his nominal "boss" is barely speaking to him, and a former high-ranking government official just suggested he might be "a nefarious bastard." But Dick Cheney is still an important guy -- so important that airplanes cannot fly near his new future residence-in-exile....EVEN WHEN HE'S NOT THERE!

From the AP:

WASHINGTON - The Federal Aviation Administration has imposed flight restrictions over Dick Cheney's new Maryland home, angering private pilots who say they can't fly overhead even when the vice president isn't around.

Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association spokesman Chris Dancy said Tuesday the FAA only imposes restrictions at Cheney's Jackson Hole, Wyo., home when he's there. He questioned the need to have the restrictions in place at all times over a home in Maryland, which has much more air traffic.

(snip)

There's only one good thing about empires. They fall.

1. From the same site: check out the first two reader comments--

"Wil Bunch - so emblematic of Democrats' Michael Moore school of political discourse. If liberals think that political thought as exemplified by this post had nothing to do with their 2004 defeat, they are sadly mistaken. Don't get me wrong - I relish posts like this. It only furthers the likelihood that the Democratic Party in 2008 will suffer a sixth loss in eight presidential elections. Keep up the good work Bunch. You're the Republican Party's best friend!"

Sounds like someone's very frightened. Whistling in the dark is a boy's best friend, but when it's combined with invective, it sounds kind of tinny...

I like this guy's comment better:

"The old pirate hasn't got it up in two decades and is one fibrillation away from the boneyard, so what the hell is he worried about anyway?????"

2. As long as they are voted in what can you do?
It sure has changed even in my life time. Nixon used to vacation in part of the town I was in and no one ever up set him. Maybe it was because Ike was not making wars?

5. I'd probably be arrested if I said what I really wanted to say
in answer to your question.

Why do we have to accept Diebold machines that we don't want? I was never a fan of anarchy, but this is different.

3. Because airplanes cast shadows
The bastard dickhead groundhog doesn't need any more shadows to confuse him.

Moral clarity, ya know.

4. AOPA types are pretty-uniformly Republicans.
AOPA types are pretty-uniformly Republicans; you can't own or even
rent an airplane unless you have a ton of disposable (wasteable)
income.

They were for this clown so they deserve the grief they're now getting.
