2nd grade propaganda your child hopefully never finds... |
|
My daughter just brought home a book from the elementary school library. The book, If the Walls Could Talk "Family Life at the White House", by Jane O'Connor, is the most partisan peace of sh!t spin I've ever read from and elementary school library. Actually I only skimmed through it due to a sudden onset of nausea.
From the book:
"At Abraham Lincoln's funeral, souvenir hunters cut off pieces of the curtains, stole silverware, and spit tobacco juice on the rugs. The White House was in disrepair, and there were rats all over the place."
Andrew Johnson had the house cleaned and wanted to fix up the place. But Congress wouldn't give him the money to do so. Rather than remove the rats, Congress tried to remove Johnson from office. He remained though and so did the rats.
Despite personal scandals and an impeachment trial, Bill Clinton was a popular president. He liked to jog and had a running track set up on the White House grounds.
Jimmy Carter's young daughter, Amy, had a tree house were she could find peace and privacy. At times Carter probably wanted to join her there to escape from economic and foreign policy problems that troubled his presidency.
<<>>
Needless to say it shines Ford, Reagan, Bush I & II in a shining light. Nixon gets a little nudge for Watergate but if I was stuck in the woods with no sh!t paper I still wouldn't use a page from this book for fear of getting a rash.

And another disgusting book I saw a week or so ago was at "Target" and it was this big book that had a blue background and picture of Bush praying on the front and said his name and how he was a great leader. :eyes: Barfing. That book is disgusting indeed.

8. My favorite comment (so far, anyway; haven't finished them all) is: |
|
"'W' is our glorious leader and he can do no wrong, but I think the best photo of him is holding hands with a member of Saudi Arabian Royalty. This single picture shows where his loyalty lies and it certainly has more to do with oil than caring about the welfare of the United States of America. Has any other American leader had to kiss someone elses buttocks for a photo op? "
Taking sarcasm to a whole new level!!!

What am I missing?
It sounds like a book for kids about the presidents. What is the shameful part?
I'm not trying to be difficult here; I honestly don't understand the problem.

|
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 12:40 PM by CanOfWhoopAss
Repug/Conservative presidents come away untouched. Why touch on the scandals of Dem administrations only?? Why touch on them at all at this age what will a 2nd grader understand about an impeachment? Assuming the kid can even spell the word.

4. Sneaky how they get the propaganda in |
|
I remember a few years ago looking at a Better Homes and Garden big coffee table decorating book. There was a beautiful double page spread of a wonderfully decorated room, and what was casually poised on the nearest table but a book with the spine clearly turned to the camera, the name of the book was Monicas Story. Nothing else in the book even remotely suggested politics, as it should be, in a decorating book. I emailed the publishers and told them, that yeah I get it, I won't be buying Better Homes products again.

when I received my July issue, and the person "most Americans" wanted to have at the 4th of July Barbeques was pResident Bush. I almost puked in the car while I was reading.
Any magazine that claimed that many brainless Stepford Wife morans in their readership didn't need my money. They kept sending me renewal notices-- all of which I promptly tossed in the trash.

15. The book has illustrations complete with images of |
|
rats playing through out the white house. It also insinuates thst Teddy Roosevelts 6 kids regularly ransacked the White House and were given free reign to trash the place. How all off this is educational is beyond me.

They might have actually been covering his nomination which IS news. Do you not want kids to even hear his name or see his face??
The OP seems to be complaining about the shallowness of the information and now you seem to be complaining because Weekly Reader might be covering an actual news event!!
My head hurts.

This is completely inappropriate for a small child, barely appropriate for high school. It sounds like somebody's attempt at humor, not material for serious study. I'd be raising the roof.

He had just taken the nation through years of Civil War. I don't consider it a blemish that he didn't spend taxpayers' money to keep his house spotless. If anything, it just makes me admire him more--likely, it had all been put into the war effort and Reconstruction.
Duh.
