I love Jon Stewart, but Steven Colbert is a poli-comic genius |
|
The first show was one of the funniest ever on teevee. The next couple were so-so, as he got his sea legs. But damn, Colbert is just brilliant. His timing is effortless, he's so quick, his smarmy routine is such a perfect dessert after Jon's more measured (too reserved these days?) approach. His interview with Katrina was hysterical yet still "newsy." Definitely the best second-half-hour anywhere on television!

Maybe I will - I saw another good one on here tonight: "Better scrape that truth off your feet so you don't track it around the house". It inspired me. http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=104&topic_id=5489686&mesg_id=5489714

Just as funny live as it is on television. If you could only see how he recovers in a tight situation. Priceless.

16. So tell me...how is the taping (I'm close enough to consider going) |
|
I'm in CT, so making a run to NYC for a taping would be easy. What's it like? Gimme details! Is it much longer than the actual show? I understand having a ticket doesn't actually mean you'll get in...true?

|
It's such a fun experience. Do plan to stand on line for about 90 minutes. The taping itself takes about 45 mins to complete because they have to move the cameras around. But it's DEFINITELY worth going to. And yes, you get confirmed for a ticket, but have to get there about 90 minutes before the doors open to get to ensure you get a ticket.

Colbert's "word" segment is terrific. Tuesday night's "confidence" was brilliant. I previously posted that I thought Stewart was getting a little soft. But the back-to-back combo of Stewart & Colbert is must see!

was perhaps one of the funniest things I have seen in a long time. I have liked it from the beginning and he has only had a few shows I was not too crazy about. He has hit his stride very quickly. I love it. It has become the hour that my husband and I try to never miss. How could it get any better than Jon and Stephan?

...Stephen Colbert made it clear that I can adore two guys on teevee with equal abandon when he started blubbering over the poor "Duke-Stir" last night. I knew he was brilliant and funny, but I love a vicious man!

I looooove the Colbert Report. The only thing I think is lacking is the interview segment - he hasn't quite found the balance of getting actual info from the guests and being his absurd persona...But I think he is getting the hang of it.
'The Word' is always incredible, I am always either laughing hysterically by the end, or just sitting there with my jaw on the floor in shock.

33. To be honest I was wondering if he could pull it off |
|
I knew Colbert was talented but I was wondering if it would be at the same level as the Daily Show when it comes to writing, and it is.
That in itself is a great accomplishment.I dont know if he shares the same writers with the Daily Show but its hilarious and just as well written.Cant believe we have a whole hour of them.
Along with Curb your Enthusiasm, they are the best shows on TV.Still waiting on the Sopranos to come back!

He also mocks the O'Reilly factor to an absolute tee down to the graphics. (that eagle is scary!)
