I wish Charles Dickens was still alive
I'd love to see what he would write about all this "Merry Christmas" vs. "Happy Holidays" nonsense.

1. Like in the movie Scrooged.....
Bill Murray responding to what Dickens would want in a Christmas special - "Charles Dickens would want to see her nipples, too."

2. Fuck Dickens.
Let me resurrect Twain.

I want to see him shred this administration and the pathetic corporate media propping it up.

7. Not so fast...
I would suggest that you read "The election for Beadle" in sketches with Boz. He lampoons politicians and their meaningless campaign tactics, two of which are mainstays today: 1) use of the "some people might say..." that * used last week when he spoke about his critics; 2) making the number of children a candidate has a centerpoint of their qualifications. He was an effective social critic, though sometimes contradictory, and harboring his own biases, and being immensely wealthy. Of course you cannot expect him to be as effective as Twain or Mencken, but he's not without worth.

3. Bos would love to lambast the self-righteous right-particularly
those of the ilk of Robertson or Falwell. Actually the Repub would love to see us return to a class structure he fought against.

6. You know people like Dickens, Twain and Orwell
never really died. Their works are all around us. And we can with some effort imagine what they might say. I think that's why they said what they did, when they did.

8. I'm glad he's not still alive
He'd be like 200 years old and would have some serious old-man smell on him.
