Victory in Iraq .... A "Please Read"
After President Bush outlined his plan yesterday, "Victory in Iraq," my erudite friend, Tony Seton, sent me an email containing this simple observation: "Dig more graves."

Here we go again. This guy has a flat learning curve. Just six months ago Bush was promising we were about to "turn the corner" because of upcoming interim elections to install an interim Iraqi government. That was his "plan for victory in Iraq," back then. I wrote at the time that that was exactly wrong. I warned that all an election would do is put the Shiites in charge and move the nation closer to civil war.

And so it came to pass.

2. the author loses me when he starts claiming Iraqi's aren't nice people
like us...

He has a bead on Bush, and yes I think Iraq is likely to devolve further into tribal strife and civil war, but.... his statements on Iraqi's are more than just (as he states) a little politically incorrect. They are racist.

4. Politically Incorrect, Maybe .....
Racist ... I think that's a bit strong.

Iraqis aren't nice people because of the way they have been treated by the West, beginning with the British.

It has to with the straight-line-borders that the British created.

5. I don't think Iraqi's are any more or less "nice" than we are
At least they didn't pre-emptively attack us.... Those I have met have been intelligent and polite.

If he is saying their behaviour towards the occupiers is not nice - well, can't say I would be very polite to occupiers either....

and one thing I found VERY strange yesterday was when bush* quoted an Iraqi and he stated they were about to 'turn a corner'..that is a bush* comment....why would an Iraqis say that?
