"Holiday Tree" Media Battle in Nashville |
|
Just heard this on my evening news. Broadcaster said they've received numerous complaints via phone and email about their calling the city's Christmas tree a "Holiday tree." He thanked people for voicing their opinion and let it be known they were calling it a Holiday Tree because that's what the mayor's calling it.
And then he stuck up his middle finger.
Okay that part's not true.

the difference over Christmas & Holidays. It is so much more important to the people of this country than the millions of women, men and children dying all over the world from preventable diseases, earthquakes, tornadoes, unnecessary wars, etc. It seems dying has become so, so yesterday. As if it isn't happening daily. I have spent the day crying about what I read about the children of Malawi and the poor people of Pakistan and Kashmir dying because they have no roof over their heads and very little if anything to eat. What have we become? This damned Iraq war has taken our youth, our money and our civil rights--all because of one man's ego and desire for power. Christmas tree or Holiday tree--call it what you want. It is so insignificant. The money spent on the Iraq war would house and feed so many of the poor and unforgotten in this world, including those in our own country. For Christians we are going to celebrate a birthday. The birthday of a man we call the Prince of Peace. He cared for the poor. I don't think he would appreciate the party we are throwing for him. I don't think he had a tree at his birthplace. Okay, I am through. I have had this on my mind for so long and am glad to get it out.

Republicans would accuse us of changing the topic, but I think it is particularly relevant that the people of America care more about what a tree is named than they care about thousands of people being held as detainees with no trial.
If Democrats try to bring up the detainees, we are unpatriotic, supporting the enemy, and whining. But somehow this holiday tree/christmas tree nonsense is important.
