PBS and "Independent World Television"
The Public Broadcasting System

I watched a segment on the PBS News Hour tonight in which they had on two law professors, a man and a woman, to discuss Bush's nominee to the Supreme Court Samuel Alito.

Both talked about how wonderful Alito is: he's cautious, he cares about the facts, etc.

There was no criticism of any controversial's rulings made against worker's rights and civil liberties.

An Alternative Channel is Planned

It's time for TV supported by the public which DOESN'T rely on government money (from a Republican Congress).

I support "Independent World Television," a news channel planned for 2007.

If you'd like to support IWT, you don't have to send money. You can join their email list, and that will help them to negotiate with cable companies by showing a long-list as an indication of interest.

(IWT has been sending me about one email per month.)

13. It's good there will soon be more options but we already have 1..
If you have DirectTV ch. 375 and Dish Network ch. 9410 there is Link TV. This is one of my favorite channels. They receive no government funding. All of their donations come from endowments or viewers.

Here are some of the programs it features:

The ACLU Freedom Files
The ACLU Freedom Files is a new 10-part multimedia series from award-winning filmmaker Robert Greenwald's Brave New Films and produced and directed by Jeremy Kagan.

Aiming to strip away the sound bytes to reveal how civil liberties affect real people everyday. The ACLU Freedom Files features personal stories of average Americans, an entertaining format and the guiding vision of a respected and award-winning filmmaker.

Series topics will include the Patriot Act, the Supreme Court, free speech and dissent, religious freedom, gay and lesbian rights, drug policy, racial profiling, women's rights, and youth freedoms.

Tips and Resources for Organizing a Screening Event for The ACLU Freedom Files Debut Episode: "Beyond the Patriot Act"

The Active Opposition: Broken Heart/Land - The Demise of the Family Farm

Host Peter Coyote joins musician/activist Willie Nelson and panel of farmers, activists and agricultural experts to explore the plight of a dying breed: The Family Farmer. Family farms in the US have foreclosed and vanished at the alarming rate of 500 per week as a corporate agricultural industry, which often wields monopolistic control over commodity prices, has been firmly established throughout the U.S.

Spotlight: Harry Belafonte

In this special feature of Spotlight, Link TV’s political correspondent Mark Hertsgaard sits down in the studio with legendary artist and humanitarian, Harry Belafonte to discuss his views on various political and social issues, including racism and oppression in the US, African aid and prosperity and the social messages behind his recent public dispute with Colin Powell. Mr. Belafonte’s eloquence and wisdom shine through in this insightful half-hour interview.

Spotlight is a weekly series of investigative reports from around the world, introduced by author and Journalist Mark Hertsgaard. Mr. Hertsgaard’s latest book is “The Eagle's Shadow: Why America Fascinates and Infuriates the World."
