What's with the coverage of all the death penalty cases all of
a sudden? There have been at least 3 in the past 48 hours, and they're being covered.
Could this be a distraction that's working?

2. It has something to do with the execution dates that have arrived.

3. The US is pushing 1,000 executions since it was reinstated.
Couldn't have done it without Bush and Gonzalez tag teaming in Texas.

4. I think your question is why are they coming so quickly?
Edited on Thu Dec-01-05 10:31 PM by melody
That's a good question, and quite apart from the 1000th mark. I don't think anyone but a right-wing Republican would be rejoicing the 1000th kill, so I can't imagine it's happening to reach that mark. Again, good question.

It may also, of course, be a coincidence.

6. It is a bit suspect that all of a sudden, we're being
inundated. I guess that's why I suspect 'distraction', though this is an odd topic to pick. But hey, we are now all distracted, aren't we?

7. The problem is the Shrub mainlines on death
Every execution is a reminder of that to the public. If they chose this as a distraction, it's a bad one.

Meanwhile, more Marines died today... and heaven knows how many Iraqis.

5. People are turning against execution
There have been too many innocent and reformed guilty people who have been executed. Life behind bars is harsh enough, and allows for the possibility of reversal of an incorrect conviction.

It's not just Tookie; I think people remember how Bush made light of the death of Karla Fay Tucker, too. And lots of previously "conservative" people realize that they identified with a bad social movement, especially since the conservatives have gone into overdrive making fools of themselves over the great Konservative Kristmas Kontroversy.

So, for what it's worth, the tide is turning. Nobody wants to advocate for killing when the engines of death are being run by a political movement consisting mainly of unmedicated lunatics.

--p!
My apologies to the lunatics.
