Boxer, Cantwell want OIL EXECS UNDER OATH
I have been bitching about the democrats sidestepping the oil motive for the Iraq war, but this looks like a solid step in that direction, and Harry Reid is behind them as well.

If they talk about that energy task force, someone needs to ask the oil execs if they asked for regime change in Iraq, since they profited from it more than anyone else.

I plan to write them and thank them in any case.

BOXER URGES COMMERCE COMMITTEE TO CALL BACK OIL EXECS TO TESTIFY UNDER OATH

Request Comes After Execs Revise Statements Regarding Energy Task Force

Washington, DC – U.S. Senators Barbara Boxer (D-CA) and Maria Cantwell (D-WA) sent the following letter today to Senators Ted Stevens (R-AK) and Daniel Inouye (D-HI), Chairman and Ranking Member of the Commerce Committee, in response to reports that top oil company executives have revised their November 9 hearing testimony.

December 1, 2005
To The Honorable Ted Stevens (Chairman) and The Honorable Daniel Inouye (Ranking Member), Senate Commerce Committee, United States Senate, Washington, DC 20510

Dear Chairman Stevens and Ranking Member Inouye:

Oil company executives have now revised their misstatements to the Senate Commerce and Energy Committees on whether they participated in Vice President Cheney’s energy task force in 2001.

Now that we know the oil executives misled the Committee on this matter, the truthfulness of their entire testimony is in question. These executives must be brought back before the Committee and placed under oath to explain themselves.

It would be a dereliction of our duty – to our constituents and to the American people – if we failed to do so.

Thank you so much for your consideration. We look forward to a prompt response.

Sincerely,

Barbara Boxer
United States Senator

Maria Cantwell
United States Senator

2. Flame me now: I'm proud of Cantwell
I watched Ted Alzheimer's Stevens bark at her when she asked that the GasBags be sworn in. I'm glad she's going after them.

3. ME TOO!!!
I'm lucky enough to live in WA where Cantwell is a senator. For a junior senator she's done a damn good job. She's up for re-election in '06 and she'll be a target. But, I think she'll be OK, the people up here are enviormentalists, and her record is sterling on that issue.

4. If only she was so "sterling" on everything else.
Maybe Boxer can be a good influence on her.

6. No flame here
Cantwell is doing very well. I too saw when that crazy Stevens shut her down. He looked quite the lunatic he is and she was the one with sense.
Go Cantwell!

5. And shouldn't it be?
Edited on Fri Dec-02-05 03:31 AM by LaPera
Or should it be like the 9-11 bullshit hearings - Where Bush was too stupid and way too feeble & needed Cheney to answer the questions.

Behind close doors, to lie about 9-11, without, (on Cheney's demand) being under oath...What's that all about????
