Today, at around 10 AM, the DNC got two phone calls -- the first came from Lamar Advertising's Cincinnati office, who informed us they would not be providing a quote for buying billboard space based on the content of the "Shame on Jean Schmidt" billboard. A second call came minutes later from Lamar's Huntington, West Virginia office. Their manager informed us that he too was rejecting the ad. This rejection came more than 24 hours after the DNC had signed a contract with Lamar and 48 hours after they had accepted the artwork for the billboards you helped pay to put up.

By rejecting these billboards, Lamar has limited your right to be heard. They've stood up to silence millions of Democrats who believe that attacking veterans for political gain is disgusting, and they think they can get away with it because they own nearly every billboard in the district.

Tell Lemar to let us know immediately whether they intend to honor its contract -- and if not, why. Fairness and the public interest demand no less.

7. Lamar Advertising is a publicly traded company
NASDAQ symbol LAMR. They're even a member of the NASDAQ 100. That means that a whole lot of mutual funds own their shares.

There is potential leverage there.

K&R but there are only a few hours left to get a fifth R.

13. Huntington, WV Office
I am faxing a letter to the local office this weekend. This decision was probably made by their corporate people but let's let the locals know how we feel.

14. I signed it, but I have a question.
Why can't the DNC just buy a bunch of campaign signs with the same info on them and put them everywhere in Schmit area?

As far as I know, you can put signs almost anywhere, as long as you stick to the guidelines. I know here where I am, they have to be 15 ft. from the edge of the road, and obviously if it's private property, you have to get the owners OK. I see signs for EVERYRTHING! Houses for rent, for sale, puppies for sale, free kittens, etc.

Why can't we just go around Lamar???

15. we have a contract enforce it .... period. n/t
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 05:48 PM by banana republican
on edit: Get a spine & sue the SOB's for specific performance (e.g. they have to perform to the terms of the contract).

I'm not a lawyer but; any legal fees and other costs should be recovered for breach of contract. It should be a free ride except for the original cost of the billboard.

16. Happily signed, K'd, and N'd.
Republican Corporate advertisind does not get to filter political free speech. Seems like there's a huge class action suit in this travesty somewhere...
