IS GEORGE BUSH THE WORST PRESIDENT -- EVER?
Edited on Sat Dec-03-05 09:02 AM by Jon8503
By Richard Reeves - Yes he is according to over 400 historians who yet will not say publicly but privately look at what they say. you will need to go to the entire story. Looks like GW wins as worst ever.

This is what those historians said -- and it should be noted that some of the criticism about deficit spending and misuse of the military came from self-identified conservatives -- about the Bush record:

He has taken the country into an unwinnable war and alienated friend and foe alike in the process;

He is bankrupting the country with a combination of aggressive military spending and reduced taxation of the rich;

He has deliberately and dangerously attacked separation of church and state;

He has repeatedly "misled," to use a kind word, the American people on affairs domestic and foreign;

He has proved to be incompetent in affairs domestic (New Orleans) and foreign ( Iraq and the battle against al-Qaida);

He has sacrificed American employment (including the toleration of pension and benefit elimination) to increase overall productivity;

He is ignorantly hostile to science and technological progress;

He has tolerated or ignored one of the republic's oldest problems, corporate cheating in supplying the military in wartime.

Quite an indictment. It is, of course, too early to evaluate a president. That, historically, takes decades, and views change over times as results and impact become more obvious. Besides, many of the historians note that however bad Bush seems, they have indeed seen worse men around the White House. Some say Buchanan. Many say Vice President Dick Cheney.

13. Worst and maybe the last ... or maybe the worst and first
I have this sinking feeling that shrub is some kind of turning point. I would say the last president, before a dictatorship, but because he was not elected legitimately in 2000 or 2004, maybe it's already here and his is the first of something new rather than the last.

It's kind of like when Rome ceased being a republic and became an empire. Then the long line of incompetent nut jobs who dragged Rome further and further down.

26. Worst and last
I was just about to post "worst and last" for the same reasons you state here (the sustained bloodless coup that began in 2000 -- maybe in 1998 if we first take in to account the assault through impeachment on Clinton, creating a plausible "context" in which a Republican could win).

My father believes that the Democrats will regain both houses of Congress in 2006, that unrest and anger toward the * administration has reached critical mass and, thus, elections cannot be stolen (not enough cover). I think he is wrong. Look at Georgia in 2002 -- Max Cleland defeated despite strongly leading the polls on election eve. The first Republican governer elected in Georgia in 130 years despite trailing by 9 points going into election day. I fear the fascists will just execute their thefts in contested contests, Wellstone a key candidate or two where they have to, thinking like a Mafiaoso "hey, what are the American people going to do about it?!" (believing, as to date, nothing).

If the Democrats win back a house in 2006 I'll happily eat crow; my money, though, is we won't, the coup will continue, and in 2008 Jeb Bush or some other plutocrat will win for the Republicans, and the pursuit of Empire will continue until the U.S. collapses 5, 10 years up the road under its own weight just like every other over-extended hegemon that has come before. And it ain't going to be pretty!

    cuz take away our playstations
    and we are a third world nation
    under the thumb of some blue blood royal son
    who stole the oval office and that phony election

22. And Who Might We Demand Accountability From?
Democrats?

Look at all the backpedaling Hillary is doing?

Republicans?

Fat chance.

Yours is a very warm sentiment but it requires leadership that cares and is willing to take a stand.

19. Yes
He is by all means the worst president America has ever been inflicted with. He has almost completely destroyed the economy, has allowed pollution to increase, and has been waging war on the middle class and poor.

Actually, since he stated that he wanted to be a "War President", it appears that the only war he is capable of waging successfully is the war on Americans who are not wealthy. In that war, he is clearly winning. Ordinary Americans are the losers, with him in office.

28. "Historically it takes decades to evaluate a president...."
Being already the worst (without historical authentication), Bush's policies and destructive actions may ensure that his legacy may never be known... we may not have decades to decide. :shrug:
