Should DU have a Holiday Fundraiser?
For the troops, War, Tsunami and Katrina Orphans ? HELP, I'm in Compassion Overload !

I just love it when DU comes together as One Voice with their donation dollars. Whether it be to our Admin's operating expenses, tributes to DU Members, plucky dark horse candidates, and our " DU family" members in need.

Wouldn't it be nice if 500 DU members gave 5 or 10 bucks to a really good'n'worthy cause?

I thought of Veterans For Peace, but I'm sure there's other great ways we can help as a Family?

Thoughts?

1. I was just going to post a reminder to send domething to some kids
stationed in Afghanistan. (We have been talking about the ones in IRaq hand sending stuff to them.)

Do we have enough time to do this?

3. Like the idea
Deciding on a charity or 527 might be a challenge.

I may be giving to New Orleans Public Library as they had to lay off 2/3 of their employees not long ago. To me, public libraries are bastions of democracy (for the most part). It's nice to have books, videos, historical maps, etc, but if you don't have people for service to organize and help with accessing them, it's not a library anymore. Another thing very important: I've been told that the citizens need bandwith the most; more computers for those looking for family members, sending out resumes, etc. They need money for paper to print these things out.

Just a thought...

5. Love your thoughts benny05!
..and I know it comes from the JREG :loveya: family too!

I also know, after the holidays, the 2006 Donation Drive will begin! So....wondering if we, the DU family, can get something together to make a difference, instead of (generic) whining
about the meaningless '05 holiday season ?

4. I'd be happy to do this as part of a DU effort. However, I think that...
you're right about the difficulty of settling on one particular group.
