How Bush Caught the 'Feaver' in Big Iraq Speech This Week
By Greg Mitchell

Published: December 03, 2005 2:05 PM ET

NEW YORK In his major speech this week outlining a strategy for Iraq that might turn around public opinion on the war, President Bush used the word victory 15 times against a backdrop of dozens of “Plan for Victory” signs. Is victory really in our grasp—-and was the talk based more on changing poll results that really setting a wise course in Iraq?

The questions will gain even more relevance with a revelation coming in Sunday’s New York Times. It seems that in a part of the 35-page “Or National Strategy for Victory in Iraq” document posted on the White House web site, a few key strokes by those in know reveal that the document’s originator or author, is one “feaver-p.”

This person is Dr. Peter D. Feaver, a 43-year-old Duke University political scientist who joined the National Security Council staff as a special adviser in June. White House officials, while saying the document contained contributions from many federal departments, confirmed, according to the Times, that “its creation and presentation strongly reflected the public opinion research” of Dr. Feaver.

Feaver, the Times’ Scott Shane writes, “was recruited after he and Duke colleagues presented to administration officials their analysis of polls about the Iraq war in 2003 and 2004. They concluded that Americans would support a war with mounting casualties on one condition: that they believe it would ultimately succeed."

1. Were there multiple spaces for "Victory" on the latest Bush Bingo card?

3. Ya know, I always have respect for clever crooks!
I don't condone what they do, but some criminals are very clever and very good at what they do.

What in the hell is wrong with THIS crowd????

"a few key strokes by those in know reveal that the document’s originator or author, is one “feaver-p.”

For God sake, If I had the FBI, CIA, Secret Service, and NSA under my control, I sure wouldn't have make stupid mistakes like that one!

It sounds like a mistake I would make in trying to send an anonymous threat letter!!!! Or the stupid bank bobber who writes his "give me all your money" note on the back of his business card!!!!!

5. just because the guy is smart...
doesn't mean he's right.

Especially in the realm of human emotion
and public opinion.. many "smart" people
have assumed too much... and
have been very very mistaken.
Hence .. New Coke....and now
this Victory nonsense.

6. Oh I agree, but that's not my point. How could they have been
so stupid as to let those identifying keystrokes in a 35 page document they posted on the web?

Are they so dumb that they didn't realize that someone was going to find the hidden info?

I'm not debating wether the "victory" idea was good or bad. It's looking right now like it didn't work. That's not the point.

It looks like they are severely underestimating people AGAIN!

7. Agree.. that was pretty boneheaded
Sometime it's the accumulation of little
things like this that bring down giants.

Like a death of a thousand cuts...
I'm applauding each one.
These fckrs deserve it so bad.

4. More lying, at a "feaver" pitch. The new "Diet of Worms."
They concluded that Americans would support a war with mounting casualties on one condition: that they believe it would ultimately succeed.

What a weak argument! Gain support by catapulting whatever shit might be grasped by a disaffected public in a sea of total intellectual disinterest. The Bu$hco worm cans are opened, almost daily, and the public sucks them down like they were gourmet noodles. When they realize what they have swallowed for over five years (including the initial campaign Can-O-Worms), I hope they puke their guts out.

:puke:
