Poll question: Do you get most of your news from places like Democratic Underground? |
|
Do you get most of your news from places like Democratic Underground?
On a separate thread, I responded that I did. So I thought I'd throw this question out there in a poll.
If it wasn't for people here, taking the time to post articles each day and post other news items...I wouldn't know half of what was actually going on. The news on the TV and the news on the radio certainly DON'T report a great deal of what is posted here.
Had I solely have to rely on the TV and radio news programs, then I probably wouldn't have heard what was going on in Plamegate, what was going on in Iraq, what the Abramoff scandal is, who Michael Scanlon is and a vast array of other scandals and truths.
So, do you get most of your news from places like Democratic Underground?

2. Yes!...and I get real edgy on the rare occasions when DU goes down |
|
I always wonder if the fascist bastards have shut down all the progressive web sites.
We would really be fucked!

the rest comes from some half dozen publications that I browse weekly.

5. I have an extensive list of websites I peruse daily |
|
where I get "facts". I get my "news" from M$M & then compare how what they report with what I've read. Somewhere in between is the truth. Oh yeah, and The Daily Show.

9. In answer to you and Silverhair below |
|
I did say "places like Democratic Underground", so yes this would cover this place and also any other similar type place. I didn't mean that my poll was restricted to just DU.
'Um, does that answer make any sense?

10. Very few of the places I go to are "like DU" |
|
Can't post links from many of them here. What's allowed to be linked to here is heavily filtered. Keith’s Barbeque Central

6. NO WAY !!!! Multiple sources. |
|
Sorry, but DU has a definate bias, and is upfront about it. The people who post news here will tend to have a heavy filter. I want to opposing views too.

8. DU is the best...for links and Diversity. |
|

Once you are here you can branch out and find good links other places. I like "Buzzflash." And Dan Froomkin on WaPo if I want a synopsis of the leading stories of the day from the most read publications.
DU is a Community...so there's more here than anywhere else...but if you want strictly "News" ...then after you've been here awhile you start to find sites that are linked here and go off on your own. You come back to DU for community and States Info...and links to new places that might be interesting to visit.
It depends on how much time one has. DU can take a whole day...it's so involving...so the links that one finds here are good to "Bookmark" for those times when we are so busy we need the "Overview." Not that DU's Front Page isn't good for that, too. But, after awhile we branch out if we find places that we can get to fast.

12. I come to DU for the most up to date late breaking gossip |
|
It was DU where I found out about the 22 indictments and that Jeff Gannon was the scandal that would bring down Bush. :silly:
Actually, even though their is a lot of BS on DU most of what I learn here is probably pretty dam close to the truth. When I want the latest inside scoop on anything, this is the place to come but I always keep my devils advocate hat on.

16. I get my news from the news, TV, print, and internet. |
|
I always have some form of news on the TV while I'm working or posting. I watch MSNBC, Fox News, CNN, CNBC, and CSPAN for TV news and read a variety of newspapers. I favor the NYT over the WaPo. I don't consider Washington Times and New York Post to be real newspapers.

17. The only weak link in DU news is... |
|
Science/technology. imho. I'm not sure how it could be improved, however. A lot of the sci-tech stuff doesn't seem to make it to LBN.
Nevertheless, DU is overall a fantastic news portal resource. DU contributors are awesome at digging up an almost overwhelming reservoir of relevant and thorough news resources.
