Anyone see" Law and Order" last nite? They hammered the torture issue |
|
It was one of the Law and Order spinnoffs.
Without giving away too many spoilers, it featured a psychologist who had been in the military in Gitmo, and who basically went crazy over how her expertize in training the military to resist torture had been perverted into being used to torture prisoners.
A classic case of "blowback." The episode very directly condemned the US's new use of torture.

1. The repubs that used to love law and order |
|
hate it now. They keep going after what's near and dear to these nutbags.
And to be fair, Law and Order is pretty equal opportunity. It goes after everyone, every issue. To bad I missed that one. I love watching Private Pile in action.

2. Glad to hear they did this ep |
|
The Mother Ship (the original L&O for those who aren't fans) has tended to be a bit more conservative lately, which I take to be because of Fred Dalton Thompson, who plays the DA and is consistantly on that franchise, where he only makes guest appearances on the spinoffs. FDT once said one of his motives for joining L&O was to push things to the right. Since he is a lawyer as well as an actor, I think he's had some influence. But I'm glad it doesn't extend to all the franchises.

4. This was definetly on the otehr side of that |
|
There were some interesting side issues raised, such as the moral dilemma of the cop's own forms of interrogation and whether it slips too close to that line.
But overall it was a clear condemnation both of the concept of torture, and more importantly, it aimed directly at what is actually being done in our name.
