Rumsfeld: Think progress, 'not concession'

BALTIMORE, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- U.S. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Monday said leaving Iraq now is not an option because it would only embolden Osama bin Laden.

...

"This is not just a hypothesis," Rumsfeld said. "The U.S. withdrawal from Somalia emboldened Osama bin Laden in the 1990s. We know this. He said so."

Rumsfeld called for "resolve ... not concession."

"Rather than thinking in terms of an exit strategy, we should be focused on the strategy for success," he said.

bin Ladin wasn't even a player on the international terror stage when the Somalia thing happened.

So Rummy is just lying, there.

4. Osama Bin Laden?
Edited on Mon Dec-05-05 02:25 PM by NanceGreggs
Bush said eons ago that he would smoke 'im out, chase 'im out, would capture him dead or alive. Now, we all know that Georgie is a man of his word, so I've always just assumed that he'd gotten Bin Laden years ago!

Well, I guess that's the Liberal Media for you. Apparently, they are so in control of the newspapers, TV and radio news outlets, they've managed to quash this story to the point where even Rummy DOESN'T KNOW that Osama is long gone.

Maybe Georgie should pay off some of his pay-pals in the media; it's the only way this story is ever going to get out.

14. Only at election time or when Pinhead and co. need to shut everyone up
about getting the hell out of Iraq before they've managed to steal the Iraqis blind. Osama Bin Forgotten and the War on Terrorism are cover for war and oil profits. Why don't the bushbots question why their favorite pResident hasn't caught Osama yet?

11. That leaving Iraq would embolden bin Laden would not be relevant had we
not gone there in the first place.

13. "strategy for success"
Does anyone here still think there can be 'success' in Iraq without an exit? Can anyone envision a successful Iraq anytime in the near future?

Not me.
