Bush approval rating up to 40% in new CBS News poll
This is not surprising with Gas prices stabilizing and falling somewhat--it was bound to happen. Still 40% is not much to brag about. Still this is up from 35% and according to the poll he has gained ground with men, conservatives and 18-29 year olds (what's up with that?). 38% think he is doing a good job on the economy up from 34% in October, but his conduct of Foreign policy has dropped from 38% approval to 36% and his handling of Iraq is approved by 36%--up from 32%.

Other bad news for Bush:

58% believe the US should set a timetable to withdrawl troops from Iraq.

52% believe the Bush administration deliberately misled the public in making the case for war in Iraq.

Hardly a strong showing for Bush despite some improvement.

Dems and will still be drawn to *

I don't know why, I'm a man

I'm not drawn to *

7. Everyone who's been paying attention had to figure that they'd go back up
Part of the reason his numbers dropped into the 30's was that his core was angry over Meirs. He picked a true lunatic this time, so they're happy again. Most people agree his core has always been about 40%.

8. I'm not sure that Meirs was the core reason
I think energy/gas prices were. When it hits the pocketbook that's when alot of apathetic people start getting mad. Now that they have dropped some they can get apathetic again.

9. I agree with that assessment
Gas prices and NOLA were huge factors. But, now the College Bowl Season is getting ready to start and people are out buying their Christmas stuff they've stopped paying attention.

10. SPEAKING OF THAT>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Cavuto (forgive me?) was on when I was flipping through channels and I stopped because they were raking Dean (but NOOO George didn't say the same thing!) anyhow,

THE NEXT STORY WAS ABOUT HOW SHOPPING MAKES YOU HAPPY, and Cavuto was up there smiling and saying "so getting out there and shopping lifts the spirits" and such, and I thought, you sick republican bastards... pushing people to go spend telling them that they'll feel better. YES, that's it, go spend what little money you don't even have (credit) and make fat cat companies more billions.

our country is so messed up, I thought it was bad in 2001-2004. It's nearly a totalitarian theocracy (and I'm a devout Christian!) anymore, this is absurd!!!!!!!!!!!!

12. I sat with three 18-24 year olds who like *.
They would vote for * if they weren't so lazy and self-absorbed. Thank dog for their mind numbing apathy.
Thing is, * could send their butts to Iraq before it's all over.
