* is speaking thru an exciter. No doubt. Besides the foot taps
Edited on Wed Dec-07-05 09:13 PM by TomInTib
today I noticed a pronounced rumble like you might get outside in the wind.

I noticed that the effect was magnified when he shifted his grip on the podium.

An exciter is a sound replication device. Today, almost everyone uses one in studio and in live performance.

This can take the coward's thin, reedy voice and layer it anywhere from 2 to 1000 times to increase depth and timbre.

Given the distortion (roar) I heard, they are jacking the exciter way up.

Goes with his shoe lifts, I guess.

6. If you can stand a re-listen you will pick it up. Listen for the low
frequency "roar" emanating thru the system. It is not a constant sound but is caused by the vibrations of his shifting grip and hand pressure on the podium.

2. I've never heard of such a thing, but I guess I'm not surprised.
Not surprised it exists and not surprised Bush uses one.

3. You would not believe what you can do with these things.
With the right software you cannot sing a bad note if you try (Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, boy groups, etc.)

9. Interesting...
Do you mean an Aphex Aural Exciter ? They've been around in recording studios for quite awhile now, both in hardware and software plug-in form. I can't comment on whether * is using one because I can't and won't listen to his psycho-babble, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they are routing his voice through one. You're right, most people wouldn't believe how much this and other vocal processors (harmonizers, etc) can change or correct a person's voice. I've heard that many a pop star can't sing at all without heavy vocal processing in the mix. It's really funny though if they are cranking up the gain so high that it distorts when * is speaking. In typical * regime fashion, they probably hired someone with no audio engineering experience.

12. All right, someone who knows what I'm talking about. I couldn't...
believe what a sloppy job they did. Sounded like they just hooked it up and cranked it.

I have suspected this for some time but don't really hold it against them- I would do it myself.

But this was so Oz-like you just would't believe.

And with their budget......

Oh well, those tone-deaf jerks probably never heard it

13. absolutely wrong-
aphex exciter -which is the industry standard -cannot perform these functions
He may also be using a pitch shifter or vocal "corrector" but I doubt- he's not signing and it would be noticable

5. I thought he had been taking voice lessons.
His voice has "changed" in the last few years. OTOH, I thought maybe he had just entered puberty.

8. He could have the voice of James Earl Jones
and he'd still sound like an idiot. I suppose if indeed he is using one of these, it was paid for out of my tax $$. Lovely.

10. it doesn't do a thing
to his phony texas accent. Have you ever notice that umm he puts in in sentences? It is more like a gulp of air than an Uh. I can't stand to listen to him and want to scream when they replay his speeches.

11. Everyone in broadcasting uses an exciter
it pushes low audio levels so they can be more clearly heard and compresses the top end as to not have transients

Maybe this is what male prostitute Jeff Gannon was consulting on during his 200 visits to the Bush-Republican White House*
