'Holiday' Cards Ring Hollow for Some on Bushes' List

By Alan Cooperman

What's missing from the White House Christmas card? Christmas.

This month, as in every December since he took office, President Bush sent out cards with a generic end-of-the-year message, wishing 1.4 million of his close friends and supporters a happy "holiday season."

Many people are thrilled to get a White House Christmas card, no matter what the greeting inside. But some conservative Christians are reacting as if Bush stuck coal in their stockings.

"This clearly demonstrates that the Bush administration has suffered a loss of will and that they have capitulated to the worst elements in our culture," said William A. Donohue, president of the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights.

Bush "claims to be a born-again, evangelical Christian. But he sure doesn't act like one," said Joseph Farah, editor of the conservative Web site WorldNetDaily.com. "I threw out my White House card as soon as I got it."

1. On the turning away...
turning against him now; are they? Finally realizing that all he cares about are his supporters with money--that he just gives lip service to their spirituality but is not really there for it.
HA indeed.

2. How wonderfully ironic
These whining conservative sound like spoiled little children who didn't get what the want under the PAGAN "Xmas" tree.

If you didn't catch the Colbert Report's send-up of this issue, it's worth trying to track down somewhere on the net.

He's working overtime to out-asshole Jerry Falwell.

7. That's too big a setup to pass-up
Of course, working overtime's de riguer, in order to have any chance to "out-asshole" Falwell.

4. I really truly honestly don't understand why this is an inssue. I can get
they don't like Xmas or whatever. But what is wrong with happy holidays? Are they just crazy because they have run out things to bitch about?

5. I think it's a conscious attempt turn the discussion
towards something they think will fire up their base, which let's face it, is about all they have left these days. I mean it's not like there's been a well of welcome news for them lately.

9. Exactly. They can't find a real issue they can defend

so they are making up emotional ones.

Faux and the Religious zealots have a problem that isn't. No one is trying to take Christmas out of the holiday season.

Even W and Laura had the common sense to send an all inclusive happy holiday card rather than a Christmas card.

6. This is the only time I ever agreed with them.
Considering the diversity in our country, it was the right thing to do. I'm so happy their base support constituents hate their Christmas card. It shows that the lockstep is starting to diverge.

8. So I guess O'Reilly thinks Bush** is Godless. These republicans are a
bunch of hypocrites. Falwell, Robertson, O'Reilly, Dobson, Bush** , Limbaugh and the whole pack of holier-than-thous.
