2. Consider the salesman too.
That's good. But I also wonder about any "non-Christian" salespeople being ordered by their bosses to wish people a "Merry Christmas". :(

3. Just Saturday - True Story
I was standing in line in a hardware store in Avon, North Carolina. I needed to buy some fuel stabilizer and they had the last two little bottles south of Oregon Inlet. Some older than me geezer was right behind me in line. As the lady in front of me checked out the lady at the register said "Merry Christmas" or somesuch.

Right at that momemt the older than me fart behind me starts spouting "Yeah, that's right, its Merry CHRISTMAS, not happy holidays" and nonsense like that. He spouted out some shit like, "This country is 80% Christians and By God nobody needs to call it anything but what it is - CHRISTMAS".

And then the older than me fart nods to me and says "Ain't that right buddy"

To put this in perspective I am about a 60-year-old-fart (long gray beard too) and he was about a 70-year-old-fart. Not a big difference, but notable.

I had paid and got my change so I was on my way out anyway. I cooly looked him in the eye and said "I don't give a fuck what you call it".

5. It's amazing and frightening what influence Fox News and hate radio have
the country's never going to get back to normalcy until the RW media monoply is undone.

10. What's amazing and frighteneing is the way they all...
accept whatever some idiot interprets the lastest blurb to mean, and then they all get their asses up about something that was never actually said.

11. LMAO

I'm in NC too. The other day my ll year old daughter and I were walking into Walmart (yes, Walmart because it's the only place near by I can find 2x size clothes for the Middle School girl I'm mentoring), anyway, as we walked past the Salvation Army guys with their bells and red bucket, she smiled and said, "Happy Holidays" and their jaws fell to the ground.

19. I don't get this nonsense either
I'm a Christian and it's not going to hurt me to be polite to someone I don't know. Good grief. They're all forgetting the second commandment from Christ: love thy neighbor as thy self. Would they want someone being that rude to them? We are a multiculture country and many different holiday's are at this time of the year. It's so shameful that all of them are so rude and hurtful. *sigh* It makes me want to hate Christmas (and I'm a Christian).

21. It's like Randi said yesterday
What is the word "holiday" derived from? Anyone? Holy Day! That's right. Pretty much synonymous with any specific religious celebration you wish to acknowledge. Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays. SAME FREAKIN' THING DUMBASS!

What's so hard about that?

23. Damned 70 year olds anyway
Seriously though, there has always been something just a little off the beam about that particular age group. I think they have a chip on their shoulder because they didn't get to fight in dubya dubya two and nobody gave oohed and ahed over Korea. They've been out to prove their manhood ever since.

13. So the next time someone says "Happy Halloween"
Should I say "How DARE you presume I'm a pagan"?

You don't have to believe in the original reason for the holiday to enjoy the holiday, do you?

And I can't help but think we have bigger fish to fry than to be all Grinch-like.

Many of my friends consider Halloween as my birthday.

You're missing the point (re: recent right wing religious folks and their comments about attacking Xmas)

18. Tonight at work, I had a small party of 15 people
who were there to celebrate the holiday/christmas season. I said both merry christmas and happy holidays to them as they left. One couple said thank you to me for saying merry christmas. My response... "I say both and you happened to get the merry christmas version. It is a holiday/holy season, no matter what religion you are."

20. This time of the year
is what each person makes of it. An athiest isn't going to celebrate Christmas the same way I would as a Christian. Those RWingers don't get it. *sigh*

25. The point is those RWers hate us atheists. :(
The RW "Christians" I know don't accept me for who I am and are out to convert me. This "war on Christmas" crap is just so much projection. RWers are at constant war with anyone who doesn't believe exactly as they do.

22. What if I never did?
I'm a secure liberal Christian who sends "holiday" cards and tries desperately to feel out each situation. Sometimes my salutation in December is merely "have a nice week/weekend!".

But what if I did?

What if we were both in public, you looked in a cheerul mood and in the "holiday spirit" and by some force of decades old habit I wished you a "merry christmas"? Do I deserve scorn?

I have an idea for a button that might actually provoke genuine thought and converstion as opposed to this dumbed down kind of "they hate me so I'll just hate them back worse" kind of mentality.

How about something like that? Make them think. MAKE THEM THINK.

26. Actually I don't care if someone wishes me a Merry Christmas.

This is just backlash from the "War on Christmas" crap that RWers have foisted upon the nation. I wouldn't care whether a person worshipped no gods or a hundred as long as they don't try to make everyone else toe the line. A casual "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays" shouldn't matter to anyone. Hell, I don't care if someone wishes me a Happy Chanukkah, a Happy Kwanzaa or Happy Winter Solstice. All the RW whining is, however, getting on my nerves.
