Just now on local news, American Airlines will start Dec. 15 charging $2 a bag for Skycap service, none of which goes to the workers...good grief.
:grr:

1. Sadly, they will probably be left with few tips as annoyed passengers
take their anger out on innocent workers. Seems to be the way it goes in America under the Cheap Employers Party

2. That's truly awful.
Sometimes I use skycaps just to be able to give them a tip. They will lose most of their money, since what I tip is about one dollar per bar.

Are they going to charge for checking baggage at the ticket counter?

The skycaps should go on strike over this.

3. I always use Skycaps
I honestly can't understand why anybody would stand in lines and deal with the stupid people at check-in when Skycaps get the job done in 10 seconds. There is no person in the world cheaper than me and twenty bucks or so seems a small price to pay for expedient and quality service. I don't fly that often, but if I ever do, it definitely won't be on American because if they had a decent system INSIDE then people would use that service anyway. This is just bullshit.

5. I lug my own
that's why it's called LUGgage

on the rare occassion where I've used a skycap - I always tip $1.00 a bag

however, if airlines are going to charge for it -- then I'll lug my own thank-you very much

6. How does none of it go to the workers?
That's outrageous. But it's the greedy bastard airlines...

7. If you want your bags to make it where you want them to go,
tip the skycap.
