6. well i think it's great. we had free showtime this weekend and my |
|
husband and i were so impressed that we ordered it.
well i like the story because it shows that not just mid-eastern people are terrorists. one guy is whiter than whiter blonde whose mom is a professor at berkely. another guy -- i think he's french but married to a morrocan woman. and there's an african american guy who is a practising muslim but is an undercover CIA agent.
one of the things that impressed me last night was a mid-eastern islamic scholar who was teaching that islam is a peaceful religion. anyway they killed him, injected him with something that gave him a heart attack. but then at the end, and it was very subtle the way they did it (in fact i had to explain it to my husband) they showed another cleric taking his place. what really impressed me is that we always hear about suicide bombers -- that there are young men waiting to take their place, but that the same goes for the good muslims. you kill one and there's another to take his place.
i think it might open the eyes of those who think that all muslims are terrorists. and there are people who believe this.

and decided it was only slightly less moronic than "24". And I blew off the last episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm for it. Bummer.

so I have resisted the tivo DVR route. Charter will eventually put it up on their on demand menu and I'll catch it there or in reruns.

5. I watched it once to check out Oded Fehr's character. |
|
I didn't like the show at all. Those shows featuring ex-demons from Charmed seem to be way too graphic. I love Julian McMahon, but Nip/Tuck is more than I can take, and I work in the medical field. :puke:

and I'm actually enjoying it. Of course, the terrorism interceptors are probably a lot more efficient, etc., than in real life, but it's good drama anyway. I appreciate that they don't portray ALL Muslims as terrorists, but also show a more positive interpretation of Islam. I'm with you, CatMother. I think this series is a lot more even-handed than I would have expected.

21. It's written by a Muslim. He was interviewed on on Majority Report |
|
Wednesday. His name is Cameron (something). That's why it seems even-handed. The writer does get "sensitive" info from Government insiders, which I found troubling....propaganda? Anyway, the reason Showtime took on "Sleeper Cell" was, in part, because it was written by a Muslim, at least that's what the writer said.
I haven't watched it. I just figured it was more propaganda TV.

I didn't know that back story about the Muslim writer. I personally don't find this series to be as propaganda-laden as it could be. Granted, the antagonist is depicted as a pretty bad man, and the hero undercover agent is good, but they do have shadings to their characters that make them interesting from a dramatic standpoint. The Muslim undercover agent is very principled -- I don't know how true that is in the lives of real-life agents, but we should all certainly wish so.
