If the head of a country wants to make war with another one, I suggest the leaders of both countries be put on a small island with guns and knives. Let them wage the war on each other. The one left living wins. Leave them some communications so they can contact the outside world if they decide to call the war off, or if one wins. It would be cheaper than using armies and if the war-mongers have to face death themselves because of their foolishness, they might decide that diplomacy is much better than war.

1. That sounds good but to make it stick |
|
We would have to kill off all the torturers, tyrants, sociopaths rapists and pedophiles around us..so they cannot use their pathological charisma ,liar skills, cons, soulless ambitions and game playing skills to create a "culture for company" where they are an "authority" and dupe unaware or stressed people into serving them ,obeying or defending them, and tolerating their abuses of trust and power you know.

2. Do you remember when Saddam's top guy said that to Bush? |
|
That him and Saddam should just fight it out? And Bush was infuriated, because half of America was like "hey, that's not a bad idea". I think a gladiatorial element would add a lot to the presidential office. You know Dean would kick Bush's ass!

|
Yea, because then America would know that Bush was only a cowering pussy, who wasn't that tough when it came to him putting his ass on the line.

5. I thought of something like that while I was a wee thing |
|
Basically having each country choose a champion and whoever wins, wins, period. My bitch-ass history teacher, who gave me a C- on a perfectly written essay about the fact that we do NOT, in fact, GET the rights guaranteed to us by the Bill of Rights, basically said I was a crazy idiot. I failed, then and now, to see how THAT is crazy idiocy when spending billions and killing Hell knows how many is a perfectly sane and reasonable way for adults to settle arguments.
Why are people not allowed to have gangs when governments are allowed to have militaries?

6. My remedy: Take the money out of it. |
|
But not the trite "Make the loser pay for it" thing. Look what happened to Germany when it was forced to pay for WWI by the Versailles Treaty.
Take away the money by nationalizing the industries that profit from the waging of war and put it into social programs.

7. But Lords used to ride in front of their troops. |
|
So that did not work either. Face it some people always think that can get what they want with force and it just may be human nature or something we have taught our kids as it has been with us for so long. Like through history. If we, the US, would just stop doing it I would feel better.

17. They did, but they wore a lot of armor. |
|
Certainly put them at less risk than the foot soldiers.
Another thing, many times kings, lords, etc., when taken prisoner by the enemy, were held for ransom. And were ransomed.

11. The way to end war - destroy the myth |
|
Edited on Sat Dec-10-05 09:05 AM by teryang
Publish photos of the dead and maimed. Publish photos of torture and war crimes.
This is why the foreign press in Iraq has to be so carefully controlled. The Bush administration and the media have a propaganda/censorship policy. They build the romance of heroism and war, they completely block photos of the carnage, dead, and tortured.
The war is greatly unpopular as a result of only a miniscule fraction of the photos of the war reality escaping into the mainstream press. Th Iraqi adventure for bush/cheney corporation for war and energy profits is completely dependent on censorship. That is why this has been the deadliest war for journalists.
Two photos destroyed the support for war in Vietnam, the picture of a little girl burned by napalm and the photo of a vietnamese prisoner being summarily shot in the head.
Seymour Hersh said on CSPAN last night that ONE, just one, Marine Air Wing has dropped 500,000 TONS of bombs on Iraq. THIS HE CALLS THE SECRET AIR WAR AGAINST IRAQ. What did one billion pounds of ordnance do to the Iraqi people? We don't know because it is a secret. The propaganda, precision ordnance. The reality: 500 kilotons of gravity bombs.
