1. He was part of the witch hunt to impeach Clinton
Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 12:39 PM by deutsey
Don't know much about him beyond that.

3. He couldn't approve of Clinton having oral sex with a woman
in the oval office.

6. I didn't necessarily approve of it myself, but it wasn't impeachable, imo

8. Oh, it was the lying don't you know. He probably is against hypocrisy,
if you ask him.

Then it's perfectly ok.

2. I think he's "in the closet"
or at least many believe he is there.

However, he is very RW and conservative. Don't let it fool you just because he speaks out against the insanity in the White House on occasion.

4. but he's not exactly a neocon either
He's just an old fashioned conservative who isn't afraid to speak his mind differently from others, just like his colleague John McCain.

23. In one of his past elections, he had a brochure that showed,,,,,
a woman about his age and 2 or 3 kids in a picture. You know.... you've seen that scene in a bunch of political brochures.... And who do you think those people were posing with Lindsay? His wife and kids? No...... they were his brothers wife and brothers kids....

Now the brochure didn't say they were his kids or exactly anything else about them..... so you must have just JUMPED to the conclusion that Lindsay was married and had children.

7. From dKosopedia.com
http://www.dkosopedia.com/index.php/Lindsay_Graham

In 1992, he was elected to the South Carolina House of Representatives and in 1994 to the United States House of Representatives, where he quickly became powerful as a member of the Judiciary Committee during the impeachment attempt against president Bill Clinton in 1998. He opposed some articles, but vigorously supported others. In January and February of 1999, after three impeachment articles had been passed by the full house, he was one of the managers who brought the House's case to Clinton's trial in the Senate. Though the Senate did not convict Clinton, Graham became nationally known.

He is running for President.

10. He is less partisan and more reasonable then many
He is generally considered a maverick like McCain. As ex-military he is very anti-torture.

21. IF he gets the nod, he will win in novemeber.
He has been carefully distancing himeslef from Bush on Iraw. He readily says its a mess that we created and therefore we have a moral obligation to fix it.

But he comes across as a moderate next door neighbor type and that is what most people want in a president.

12. he was very pissed off about the torture issue
in the early days at least, he seemed to be leading the charge to decry torture. I think it was because hes an old JAG officer and the JAG corp kept trying to tell Rummy et al that torture was not a good idea. Or, it could be he has a heart. Maybe. It was shocking to me because he drove me crazy during impeachment and I almost liked him during the debate about torture.

My mom saw MTP yesterday and said he was good. She too was shocked. She told me to watch the rerun but I forgot. Dang. I'm in trouble. Tell me what he said and maybe I can fake it (grin)

15. He was great on torture issue
yesterday. Just great.

Can't believe it's the same guy who led the charge to get rid of habeas corpus for those folks he doesn't want to torture.

I disagree with him on so much, but am grateful for his strong stand on torture.

It has to be some republicans speaking out and acting on that since we are not in power, can't get bills through ourselves now. And this torture issue is so important to America.

Edited on Mon Dec-12-05 12:54 PM by hiaasenrocks
I find myself agreeing with him on some issues, but I can't see myself voting for him at this point. To his credit, he's not as bad as the other Senator from SC, Jim DeMint. And Graham holds Strom Thurmond's old seat, so by those standards...well, he's not that bad.

14. Fairly moderate.
Would agree with most here that the Clinton witchhunt was not his finest hour.
Will most likely be McCain's veep choice if he wins the Nomination (which I think he will).

18. That's the talk at the moment
a McCain/Graham ticket. Graham was McCain's campaign manager when Bush/Rove pulled off that smear campaign in 2000. Graham has no love for *.

19. I looked at his voting record once
He is a Diplomat but he votes the Party Line 90% of the time. I actually kind of like him even if I disagree with him. He respects Democrats opinions so I can respect his opinions even if I disagree with him.

20. He wants to run in 2008, that's why all of a sudden he is
beginning to sound human...he is reflecting what he found his constiuents respond too. Also, he was JAG so I'm guessing torture is a legal trap he wants us to avoid...if you noticed yesterday, he spoke more of the liabilities rather than the human side of torture...

22. Fuck him.
He is a Party man and despite some occasional posturing he will vote the Corporatist agenda like clockwork. It is a testimony to how far out the bu$h/PNACer's are that people like Graham and McCain might be considered moderate.

26. He's just another Puke. Go back and watch Lowell Weicker
(R-CT) demand answers from the Nixon Administration during the Watergate hearings. THAT was a Republican Senator that went after the truth. Graham tries to look reasonable but has he ever held Bush to the fire? Demanded hearings on pre-war intelligence? NO, he's just a show.
