War ?
DU Civil "War"? "War" on Christmas?

Complete with IEDs, land mines, small arms fire, mortars going off regularly, etc ?

Man, I get tired of everyone saying "war". No one's died in the "War on Xmas"

The war on drugs ? Laughably absurd. Possible overdoses (suicides?), are they considered enemy casualties ?

The overuse of the term War makes us desensitized to it in general. If people get so used to it being used in common instances, it makes it easier for the propagandists to claim we are at War right now. To my knowledge Congress never declared war.

Infighting, shouting matches, discord, disagreements, arguments, Flamewars (*note one word), etc. These I've seen on DU, but never would I say we are at War.

Marketing execs trying to appeal to the largest base possible? How is this war?

The "War" that conservatives always refer to when they claim we're treasonous for not supporting the pResident during a time of war? What war is this ? The war on Terror ? The War in Iraq ? I seem to remember victory being declared by * himself aboard an aircraft carrier (looking like he padded his crotch to look more manly, no less).

Nor do I think that one can declare war on a tactic. Terrorist attacks are a tactic, much like guerilla warfare tactics used during the Revolutionary War. Where was the "War on blitzkrieg" during WWII ? Why did we not just declare War on Al-Quaida, or the Taliban, or Afghanistan ? I don't remember a congressional declaration of "war" on Iraq. Remember Congress declares war, NOT the president.

Use of the term "War" no matter how innocuous only aids the fascists who want to keep our society in a state of perpetual fear.

It is my opinion that war is one of the most obscene terms in the english language. No word omitted on radio, cable, or broadcast tv comes even remotely close to signifying the orchestrated and deliberate mass killing of other human beings.

I use the term far less than other "obscene" words. When I do use it, it is often to this effect: "I can't believe people support this bullsh** 'war'."

Let's not make those propagandists like bin Rielly's jobs any easier. Stop using the term war, and encourage others to stop as well. Make it an effort to let people know what War truly is. Death, maiming, the destruction of society, fracturing of families, and all the ugliness that goes with it, torture, war crimes, rape, pillaging, friendly fire, etc.

As odd as it is to quote someone who attempted armed secession. I think it was best summarized in the following quote:

It is well that war is so terrible -- lest we should grow too fond of it. ~Robert E. Lee.
