Army recruiter charged with having sex with minor

PORT CHARLOTTE -- A local U.S. Army recruiter was arrested Tuesday after allegedly having sex with a 15-year-old female Port Charlotte High School student, a possible Army applicant.

A detective with the Charlotte County Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit charged Staff Sgt. Orlando Garay, 35, 26440 Europa Lane, Deep Creek, with lewd and lascivious battery.

According to information released by the Sheriff's Office, in September, the mother of the victim contacted the Sheriff's Office concerning an incident involving her daughter and Garay. A detective met with the girl, who said Garay picked her up at her home earlier that month and took her to his home, where they had sex. The victim said Garay then drove her to Port Charlotte High School for her fourth-period class. snip

Garay is a recruiter at the U.S. Army recruiting office in the Murdock Carrousel Mall.
