Dear Gov. Dean -- “Making it up” … Must Be Stopped
Edited on Tue Dec-13-05 09:22 PM by understandinglife
13 December 2005 (# 8)

Today, Mr. Bush spoke about his war on Iraq. When questioned about the number of dead Iraqi citizens since he began his war, he stated “30, 000, more or less.”

And, then he joked. The juxtaposition of that joke with the topic of dead Iraqi citizens has been noted by others, subsequently, for its callousness.

That’s not the point of this letter, however.

The point of the letter is the ironically truthful content of “the joke.” To wit:

Q Mr. President, thank you –

THE PRESIDENT: I'll repeat the question. If I don't like it, I'll make it up. (Laughter and applause.)

Thank you, Mr. Bush, because that may be the one truthful thing you’ve said about Iraq since 1999.

Indeed, we know all about Bush’s facility of making up stuff.

Bush wanted to remove Saddam, through military action, justified by the conjunction of terrorism and WMD. But the intelligence and facts were being fixed around the policy. The NSC had no patience with the UN route, and no enthusiasm for publishing material on the Iraqi regime's record. There was little discussion in Washington of the aftermath after military action. – July 23, 2002, The Secret Downing Street Minutes

Making stuff up is truly the core of Bush’s legacy.

Oh, and then, of course, there’ll be the chapters about killing lots of innocent people, destroying their homes, and their societal infrastructure.

But, through all those chapters, the common thread will be, Bush was a liar and he assembled the most massive government and media propaganda system, in American history, to use against the citizens of America (as well as, elsewhere).

In fact, Bush is so accomplished at making stuff up that we have no more reason to believe “30, 000, more or less,” as he stated today than we have believing anything that comes out of his mouth.

Gov. Dean, America cannot tolerate even another day of Bush (and Cheney’s) deception. We certainly are not going to make it to January, 2009, with these two criminals and their neoconster cohorts in charge.

Gov. Dean, in August of 1974 an honorable Republican, Senator Barry Goldwater, led some of his colleagues to the White House to tell another criminal it was time for him to exit.

I don’t know if a single Republican member of the Senate has the ethics or courage to do what should be done to Mr. Bush and Mr. Cheney, if for no other reason than to attempt to salvage the Republican Party.

However, Gov. Dean, I do know that we have many ethical, courageous, articulate, and exceptionally knowledgeable Democratic Members of Congress. It is time Gov. Dean, for you and the DNC to adopt what I call the Murtha, Conyers pathway to restoring the Republic.

It is essential that those two gentlemen be, in every conceivable way, enabled to bring their messages (about Iraq, “Downing Street,” “Plame & Niger forgeries,” and election fraud) to every American citizen, daily.

They don’t make stuff up.

They know precisely the lies and the mechanisms being used – from Rendon engineered propaganda; to Diebold (and others) engineered election theft; to Halliburton, Bechtel, BlackwaterUSA (and others) engineered ravaging of Iraqi natural resources.

Gov. Dean, “America, Or Not?”

If your choice is “America,” then call a major media conference, during prime time, and bring Congressman Murtha and Congressman Conyers before their fellow citizens and provide them all the time they need to ensure that their messages are heard, repeatedly.

Many of our fellow citizens already ‘get it’; we need to bring as many more to the truth as quickly as possible in order to create the national ferment of major legal action against Bush and Cheney and major overhaul of the Congress and the media.

Thank you for your continued leadership,

p.s. The folk at The World Affairs Council of Philadelphia responsible for the "Laughter and applause" should be ashamed.

1. I don't understand how he jokes about everything
We are on the eve of the Iraqi elections and he can't seriously present facts on Iraqi casualties, he is truly beyond my understanding. Kicked and Recommended.

5. Remember the eve of the war itself?
He punched the air and said to himself, "Feels good", just before he went on camera?

Life, all of it, is a joke to him, even deaths of thousands (which predictably happened the next day).

9. Dear Gov. Dean: understandlinglife speaks for some passionate,
voraciously informed people. I'm in that category. Please consider all the passion out there, and all the typing and talking and ranting and reasoning that goes on, and know that when you read the letters from UL, you are hearing many voices, and please don't underestimate the geometrically compiled opinions that contribute to, and are represented by, the salient, well-researched, and seriously peer-reviewed letters he passes on to you.

Thanks,

bleever

10. I am grateful and honored by these comments. I hope Gov. Dean ...
... sees them and reads the letters. I have every intention of writing one a day to him until Election Day, 2006. (It's not as if we are likely to exhaust the mission critical issues facing the Republic before then ... if only I could be wrong about that, I'd happily eat 10 lbs of crow!).

Peace, my friend.

12. Thanks for all your efforts, UL. Here's another Bush mind-set story.
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x5594016

For those who don't want to chase down that thread, here's the OP, about the Brian Williams interview:
When Brian Williams just tried to ask him about three things that didn't go as planned in the Iraq War, at first Bush had to ask him to repeat the question, and then when Williams mentioned that Bush had said we would be welcomed in Iraq as liberators, here is what he said:

BUSH: ...we were welcomed, it just wasn't a peaceful welcome.

JEEZ!

It's that perverse ability to twist the facts that gets him (and US!) into all the trouble. Does he even realize what he's saying?

14. This is excellent
Dean needs to know that we are behind any efforts to confront our "president" for what he is.

I don't know how to manufacturer an electronic petition, but if someone knows how to do this, posting such a petition with wording similar to what you wrote here might be a worthwhile idea.

15. I like your idea. Perhaps the folk at "The Pen" could host such a
... petition?
