Is the Pentagon spying on Americans?
Secret database obtained by NBC News tracks `suspicious' domestic groups

By Lisa Myers, Douglas Pasternak, Rich Gardella and the NBC Investigative Unit
Updated: 7:51 p.m. ET Dec. 13, 2005

WASHINGTON - A year ago, at a Quaker Meeting House in Lake Worth, Fla., a small group of activists met to plan a protest of military recruiting at local high schools. What they didn't know was that their meeting had come to the attention of the U.S. military.

A secret 400-page Defense Department document obtained by NBC News lists the Lake Worth meeting as a "threat" and one of more than 1,500 "suspicious incidents" across the country over a recent 10-month period.

"This peaceful, educationally oriented group being a threat is incredible," says Evy Grachow, a member of the Florida group called The Truth Project.

Pretty scary stuff! I saw the piece on MSNBC last night. Quakers for heavens sakes. They are the personification of peace.

3. More COINTELPRO
Standard procedure for the fascist wing of our government, which sadly has been going on for decades. If you seek peace or a more equitable distribution of our nation's wealth, you're immediately suspect in the eyes of a small but very powerful cadre of men for whom our society has paid off beyond the dreams of ordinary mortals. And it's still not enough for them.

6. Yeah. I've got a file somewhere from Viet Nam peace marches
Guess they can dust it off and update it now, because I'm one of those 65% of the American public who is opposed to the invasion.

Good thing hard drive memory is so cheap now, because it looks like Agent Mike and Company will need to open files on..oh, about 175,000,000 Americans who oppose the invasion.

:hi:

7. Well what a BIG surprise
The government is spying on those who oppose their war based on bs. I foresee that the truth will manage to get out here one of these days and some BIG heads are just going to roll. I'll venture to say there is going to have to be an entire prison just for the bad people ruining our country.

9. Yay, now I know where to go when I want a photographic record of my life
Considering that I started protesting the war when I was nine, and was photographed by the nice, black suited men in sunglasses then. Then there is that picture they took of my teenage years when I was protesting the local nuclear power plant going up. There is also one of me in my twenties protesting the first Iraq war. And now they have a few of me in middle age, protesting this illegal, imoral war.

Why bother with formal portraits when the Pentagon is so considerate to take pictures of us in action.
