more X-mas "war" idiocy
Lawmakers look to defend 'Merry Christmas'

ATLANTA - Two Georgia lawmakers want to make sure the Grinch can't interfere with the holiday greetings of government employees.

Sen. Ronnie Chance, R-Tyrone, and Rep. Clay Cox, R-Lilburn, have sponsored bills that would prohibit government agencies from telling employees or public school students they can't say "Merry Christmas" or other "verbal expressions relating to the celebration or observance of any public or legal holiday."

They say it's an effort to protect free speech at a time when many conservative groups have said there is a "war against Christmas."

...

"I think it was a waste of time and useless," said Debbie Seagraves, executive director of the Georgia branch of the American Civil Liberties Union, a group often cast as the anti-Yuletide Scrooge by conservatives. "There really is no war on Christmas."

Even though it wasn't legal to begin with.

4. Wasn't the consensus that they had banned all marriage?
I remember there being a substantive problem in the wording of the law.

As I recall, over two hundred straight and gay couples showed up at various locations
to challenge the law. Gotta love Texas Democrats.

Prop. 2
HJR 6
Chisum - Staples

Ballot Language
"The constitutional amendment providing that marriage in this state consists only of the union of one man and one woman and prohibiting this state or a political subdivision of this state from creating or recognizing any legal status identical or similar to marriage."

"Enmienda constitucional que dispone que en este estado el matrimonio consiste exclusivamente en la unión de un hombre y una mujer y que desautoriza, en este estado o en alguna subdivisión política del mismo, la creación o el reconocimiento de cualquier estatus jurídico idéntico o semejante al matrimonio."

Brief Explanation
HJR 6 would provide that marriage in Texas is solely the union of a man and woman, and that the state and its political subdivisions could not create or recognize any legal status identical to or similar to marriage, including such legal status relationships created outside of Texas.
